74 steering wheel removal

how do you get this piece off??  it looks like there is a cotter pin around neck of column - if i take this off - will top come off??  how do i take out cotter pin??

there is a snap ring what keeps the bearing in place... yes, removing that ring you'll need just to pull out the collar and will come off with bearing.

the right way to remove the snap ring is use a snap ring plyers

thanks - i will see if my local hardware store has a snap ring plyers -

there are two kinds... to open and to close them... you need to open in this case

master cilinder brake pistons for example would use the ones to close.

some plyers are by directional
