I have been looking into tire sizes that I would want to run and I was thinking about running a 285/70/R15 on a 10 inch wide wheel.  I was reading that for a tire this size I would need tubs and i was thinking that since the metal on my car is all rusted and needs to be replaced anyway why not go ahead and build it big.  I was wondering if the mini tubs were something that was purchaced or if they were all homemade.  Another route i was thinking of going was buying the full size tubs from summit and just customizing them so that they would fit in my 68.  I don't really have to worry about making them fit around a back seat because i don't have one anyway.

Thanks
Martin

The only mini tubs I've seen have been fabricated in place.

Except this one:

Martin,
A 68 Charger has about 14" inside the stock wheel well. And a 285 tire is only 12" with the right wheel off-set you can run a tire as big as a 305 with the stock wheel wells

ya if you get the right offset you can run that tire. Ask MeFirst. he should know, i think he has a 305 or a 315 in his 70.

The rear tires are RaceMaster DOT Slicks that are 325/50 R15 on a 10" rim, the rim has 5" of backspacing AND I also have the SS springs !!! I think with stock springs this rear tire/rim combo wont fit...

IF your Stock rear springs are new, you should be able to fit 295/50 R15 tires on a 10" rim with 5" of backspacing..

I think that the 285/70 is a 30x11.5 but I'm not sure. Wouldn't you need a tub for a tire that big?

ok i think im confused on the whole metric measuring thing. Would u explain?

The width is no problem you could go as wide as a 325 but if set your car low mine the tallest tire you can run is 28.5" to clear outer fender. Now if you have S/S springs your car will sit higher and you can go with a taller tire. Note the Pic of my 285/40-18 they are 11 1/4" wide and 27" tall.
