Well, I've lost my can of bolts.  I have no clue where they could be, but I want new ones anyways.  Does anyone have a complete bolt listing for a big block (sizes, thread, etc)?  I want to start assembling my engine, but need bolts for it.

Hopefully someone has it.  Any help, as always, is appreciated.

just buy a full ARP bolt set from one of the regular vendors, everyone carries a complete grade 8+ bolt set for engines.

I don't feel like paying $100+ for bolts and shipping if I can get them at a place like Ace hardware for a little cheaper.  I don't really need heavy duty stuff, I may do their head bolts. I have most of the bolts for the accessories, I mainly need the sizes for timing cover and oil pan bolts, but I was curious if anyone had a listing.

you are correct, that's a bit much...

really, the "standard" bolts are all funny sizes, good luck getting decent grade bolts to replace them

in reality though, redoing all your bolts to the same base size head, or heads is a gift from God when it comes to working on it.
Go out and get yourself a stud measuring kit, it will have a bunch of bolts of all different types of standard or metric (you want standard) thread diameter and threads per inch... then go around measuring every hole you can find/need. Then go buy bolts of the correct length with that diameter and tpi.

Do you have a service manual?  Unfortunately, my 68 Charger's service manual is 800 miles away, but if I recall correctly at the end of the engine section it lists every bolt, size, length and pitch, or at least size and thread count.  If you have the service manual that might be a good place to look.

On the bolt kit subject, they are great, but they are far from complete.  I have purchased two of em from ARP (I think both were the same kit).  Black oxide coated grade 8 $100+ sets.

I wanted the most complete set I could get, and I think I got em, but I still needed a separate head bolt kit, reused main cap bolts, and rod bolts (I think it's best to have rods rebuilt with new rod bolts).  Also if you want exhaust studs you'll have to get em somewhere else (Mancini racing in my case).  Even still I had to reuse some of my old bolts for here and there.

At any rate, good luck, there is nothing I hate more than hunting down each and every little fastener

See Bill Alphin on here as he sells complete correct engine bolt kits.  They are not the super hard ARP bolts but the correct strength and correct head marking bolts just like the factory used.  Plus they all come packaged individually as to where they go.
