How many of you guys gave up on the car you were looking for? then got a car you never though you would buy  :popcrn:

Well like I said, I have been looking for 4yrs for a 68 318 AC Charger. You would think a guy could
find a decent runner that needs a resto for under 10k, well I tried. The closest I got was a QQ1
Blue 68 318 AC Charger Travis had for sale, well it sold for between 13k and 14k, needing a full
resto and no fender tag, I think the guy that bought it is on this site actually.

So as the search went on, I looked at other models here and there for the heck of it, even
though I am a hopeless 68 guy  ;D  So I see this 74 Dodge Dart Sport for sale, 318 AC car.
I also need a floor shift car ''just have to'' So turns out this is a original owner Arizona car
and pretty much all original except a crappy repaint darker than the original B5 blue, and
fading like the band and some small body damage, but not one bubble of rust on or in the
intire car :o :o  big bonus. So I figure, for 2k how can I go wrong for a little street fighter.

Anyway a couple people kind of know about it Mike, Ron,  :D, and I have had it a year now, I thought
I would come out of the closet   :yesnod: :yesnod:  to anybody interested, here are a
few pics of my ''A-BODY''  :scratchchin: I have always liked A-Body's, but this is my first one.

Note the tiny wheels and tires    stock hubcaps, and of coarse a died battery  :brickwall:

Try and keep in mind, I have a good base to start with, even though it does not look like much.

Oh, and the Arizona tabs just expired 3 months ago on the original Arizona plates   ;D

So, how many of you guys out there have an A-Body as well? and can maybe help me with this car.

I also need to figure out this fender tag, actualy its two and a long strip, somebody told me that
was for the paint code  :shruggy: but don't know.

thanks for any help.

Cool! Tilt steering, console & bucket seats, nuthin' wrong with that!
I've never even sat in an A-body, so I can't answer any particulars. :shruggy:

Man, that guy pushing the car on the right has got some lats on him! :o

The Aquamax...yes, this bike spent 2 nights underwater one weekend. (Not my doing), but it gained the name, and has since become pseudo-famous. :)

My brother is into A-bodies . He has a 71 Scamp. He hangs out on this site http://www.forabodiesonly.com/mopar/ Hope it helps. If not PM me and I'll give you his e-mail. He's pretty good at decoding VIN's and fender tags.  The Dart looks like a good project. :2thumbs:

7 years ago I was on the hunt for my first Mopar, a 71 'Cuda, I looked for months and ran across a 70 Charger R/T SE in my price range and not far away, I bought it and never wanted a 'Cuda since (well maybe someday a AAR would change my mind)
Congrat's on your Dart!

Right-on, clean little car Dan.  Usually the Arizona cars' interiors' are toast.  That one doesn't look too bad and look at all that rust free metal, WOW.   You're acquiring quite the fleet.
Since it's a A/C car, does it have the bigger radiator?  What are the sizes in the a bodies anyways?

Our very own Chris G has the Hang 10 Registry, might be of some help?  http://www.hangtenregistry.com/index.php

Nice find Dan :yesnod:

I got a set of Keystone Raiders that would look cool on it :coolgleamA:

Thats a sharp car Dan ! How can you go wrong with bucket seats, console and a/c.....awesome !  :2thumbs:

That little 'teen is begging for a 4in crank  :icon_smile_big:

The no-rust is a huge bonus.....any car meeting that criteria is getting harder and harder to find. The price isn't too hard to take either ; a definate "score"  :icon_smile_cool:

Congrats Buddy

Hey Mike
Yep, being a AC car it has the big rad, and something else I did not know till after I got it, was
that the AC cars came with the big 340/360 torsion bars and the big rear springs to match bonus  :2thumbs:

Only problem is, I had already bought the 383 big block resto bars from Mopar, just before I found this
out. So I still put the freshly powder coated big block bars in, so I have the original 340/360 powder
coated tortion bars sitting here in the garage, I was told they are worth some money  :scratchchin:

I have a good 360 sitting here in the garage, my plan is to make a Dodge Dart Sport 360 clone for
street fun. I have the 915 340 J heads in the shop right now, getting the 202 valves, and some
pocket porting, I ported the last set I put on my car, took a long time, to lazy to do these  :image_294343:
And I have the trans at a friend place right now, it will be good up to 500hp, but I am only shooting
for 300hp on this build, I already have the red car gas hog  :icon_smile_big:  anyway I will run
a 9.5 comp piston with the ported larger valve heads, I just need a real good cam for great vacuum
street use, I will be asking about that soon ''Ron''  :scope: I also have the 70 340 4bbl intake
and the 70 340 AAR Cuda exhaust manifolds ''no header on this car'' just for the street at this point  :flame:.

Yep, the Arizona sun did do its damage, the repaint is shot, although it looks much better now in
the area's where I buffed it out  :yesnod:  but check out the upper dash pad  ::) ever seen one
this bad :faint:  got a new one, boy what a difference. Still need to do the wood grain on the console
it is shot as well..

sweet!  congrats buddy, i like it...cant wait to see it :2thumbs:

Yep, the wheels had to go  :brickwall:  now 225x60x15 on 6in rims front, 255x60x15 on 7in rims rear, better,
but I have a set of 275x15x8 magnums that I found out will fit, that will fill up the rear much better  :2thumbs:

8WHEELER

Been doing some front end work to, 1-1/4 front sway bar should be enough for an A-Body? 7/8in rear.

Had to buy some lower control arms that had the sway bar bracket, I could have made them  :yesnod: :yesnod:

Powder coated everything, now I need to put the nice new ''CLEAN'' 360 in

That k member looks like a six shooter style, is it or not? I picked a k member up that looks the same as what you have there but it is not the same as I need, unless I use Shumacher motor mounts. How the heck did you get it all powder coated so damn fast also after just getting the car or did you have parts already? Looks like a daily driver for sure now w/those magnums.
Mark

YEP, ITS THE ORIGINAL 318 V8 K-Frame, took it out hot tanked it, sandblasted it, and then powder coated
it with all the other parts, and a bunch of Charger parts to  ;D

Pretty much everything else except the original K-Frame, I got from a guy that took all the parts off a 73 Duster,
that's how I got the lower control arms with the sway bar brackets, I also have to stock sway bar, but will not
be using it at this point.

73ChargerSE

Wow, you are fast.  That car looks sweet.  What part of AZ did you get it in?  I don't think those are the original plates, those started in 1980 I think.  It probably would have had the gold and green plates like my Charger.

8WHEELER

Well I was told they were the original plates  :shruggy: but he might have forgot that part, not sure.

He actually had just moved to Burbank Ca. 6mo before I bought it, so I don't know exactly where
in AZ he lived, he told me but that was a year ago. He just never titled it in Cal, I did not make a copy
of the paper work before getting it in my name and state, now I wish I had  :rotz:  oh well, it is a good car.

bull

Very nice, Dan. I'm a big A-body fan too but my interest lies mostly with the older Darts. Were the older Barracudas considered A-bodies too or were they E-bodies even back then? Looks like you're going fast and in the right direction with the cleanup effort. It'll no doubt be a fun car.

tecmopar

Damn, I'm jealous you lucky dog you. I've been looking for something like that at around that price, or a little higher for an around town car. All we have here is more rust then metal, good luck, and if you find another one let me know, ha ha.

8WHEELER

There is some good A-Body deals out there, if it is above the 70 model year.

Yes Bull, I wanted a 68 Barracuda or Dart GTS on the cheaper side   :smilielol: :smilielol: RIGHT  :slap: No way.

This is the color my Dart was, and should be  :yesnod: :yesnod:  it is also a Dart Sport 360 with 53k on it,
it is very sweet and original, except for some speed parts under the hood  :2thumbs:  I have the scoop already.
