I an trying to pick out an exhaust system for a 74 plymouth road runner.
I am trying to keep it around 500-600total.
I am looking at hedman headers. The rest of it I just have not been able to decide.
Can anyone tell me the quality and or problems with these systems?
Summitt_Header back dual exhaust
Or
Pypes Street Pro Dual exhaust.

If anyone knows of problems, fitment(is that a word?), pitfalls or even comparable or better systems. I would love to get some opinions.

Thanks

i tried hooker headers on my 74 charger. and hookers are known to generally fit better than hedmans, and they didn't fit worth a crap. i baked a starter and boiled the power steering fluid in 2 blocks. I just run HP manifolds.

I'd run HP manifolds, buy the summit kit, and pay a exhaust shop to install it and make the front part of the system.

I used TTI headers and TTI 3" exhaust on my 68 Charger and it was a perfect fit! They are more expensive but after installed them I got what I'd paid for!

I talked to a guy at Carlisle with the same car same engine. He had the hedmans. Said they fit pretty good except the trans linkage had to be adjusted a bit. I am well aware of header fitment(?) problems. I have them on my 71 and 73 charger. They are just a pain to install and work on. But once I got them in they fit ok enough. I haven't had the burnt P.S or anything else happen yet.
I have the original manifolds from the car but they are not HP. So I thought it would just be easier to get the headers new instead of hunting down a set of used manifolds.

the consensus is always the same... buy hookers/headmans/et cetera and you will have to modify a little somewhere.

buy TTI's, and they (like the rest) are a pain to install, but require no bending...it's worth the money everyone says, even those who have been through a dozen sets of header installs on half a dozen different vehicles.

Hey Keepat, nice looking exhuast system, esp those electric exhuast cutouts, lol. So are those the "I don't like the little bit of attention I'm getting, and I want more now" kind of things? :smilielol: Anyway, I thought about a similar setup, but using an X pipe crossover instead of the H pipe.

I am running the hooker 1-7/8 super comps and they fit fine without any issue.  72 charger with 440.   :icon_smile_big:

Thats what I did on a budget, but I paid about 300 for the exhaust kit, put another 300 into having it al put on and the part to the manifold made... In hindsight I dont know if I would do it the same again. I put 600 into a 400 exhaust IMO

The Charger get all the attention without the cutouts! But yes they are Fun to open up  :2thumbs:

I got a quote from a local exhaust shop to do a 2 1/2" with X-pipe and tailpipes for 600.  Are you dead set on using headers?

Heath, go with the budget Summit 2 1/4 dual exhaust and a set of headers. Add a crossover (H-pipe) and that's all you'll need for the mild 318.....it won't break the bank either. ;)

I would suggest some good header/collector gaskets....dead soft aluminum (Percy's)  :2thumbs:
