Hey guys
So I have a 68 Charger with a after market 440 in it, I think the engine is  from 73 to 78 , with a aftermarket radiator ( I think same time frame, it is a 26" 2 core, that the techs at yearone said was out of a dodge but not a B body), the car came with these so I am a little unclear on what they are out of,

My question:
Am I going to be able to find a fan shroud? Year one said probably not. DO I NEEEEED A FAN SHROUD???

I am getting it re-cored for $300 for a  4 core and $75 for labor.
Or would it be better to buy a aftermaket correct size radiator? Would it be around the same price?
I will try to get the Vin #'s if someone outthere has any recommendations..

Thanks :boogie:

I've always been told that fan shrouds are an important part for keeping the engine cool and not over heating.

:iagree: but if your nor worried about correct you can find aftermarket shrouds or fabricate some thing that would work,  the shroud direct the air from the fan through your radiator, without it the air that needs to go through the radiator is blown around the engine compartment, greatly reducing your cooling capacity.

I read somewhere that a fan shroud will reduce the temp about 30  degrees.

You can get a radiator from US Radiator in California for about the same money.  It's brass and new.  They make them for about everything.  I got one for my 69.  You can select the level of cooling you want.  The one Year One sells is the cheapest one that US Radiator makes.  Leastways, this was all true a couple of years ago.

I don't know about the shroud on a 68.  I think it's a little different than the 69 but I think the radiators from 68, 69, and 70 all fit in the same space (26 inch radiators).  Mine has three mounting bolts on the passenger side and two on the drivers side.  The shroud for mine is available directly from Chrysler still.  I think it costs something around $80 or $90.  I am thinking that it could be used on your application as well.

You definitely should use a shroud.  These cars with 440's in them have enough trouble getting rid of the heat.  No use adding to the problem by eliminating the shroud.  You will need to be careful about selection of the fan clutch.  I think you will have to mount everything and then look for a clutch.  The original one from Chrysler is long gone so you have to buy an aftermarket.  There have been several threads here on the trials and tribulations of getting one that will yield the correct fan to radiator core clearance which I think is about an inch or maybe a little more.  This might be the time to replace the engine mounts with the ones that Shumacher sells that won't come apart or put a bolt through the drives side mount so it can come apart and allow the engine to rotate in the engine bay ruining your hood and potentially your radiator when the fan crunches into it.
