My oil light is always flickering on and off pretty rapidly. Its done that since I first got it started. I checked the oil and my levels are fine. Whats the next step to getting this thing to stop?

first thing id do is get a gauge and see what oil pressure it has.
68 Charger R/t white with black v/t and red tailstripe. 440 4 speed ,black interior
68 383 auto with a/c and power windows. Now 440 4 speed jj1 gold black interior .
My Charger is a hybrid car, it burns gas and rubber............

:iagree: ...and if its ok, then maybe try a new oil sending unit.

well this seems like a good opportunity for me to buy an after market cluster to mount at the bottom of the dash. Which ones have you guys used? I'd like it to look nice and not too after market. I'd probably get a 3 instrument cluster. I'm thinking I'd put in oil pressure, vacuum and temperature. Any instruments you would suggest instead? I'll probably install a fuel pressure gauge in the engine compartment.

or check if oil is arriving to rockers at least.

even I had that same sympthom untill got definitelly lighted on long time ago when I had standart cluster and was the sender damaged
Venezuelan RT 74 400 4bbl, 727, 8.75 3.23 open. Now stroked with 440 crank and 3.55 SG. Here is the History and how is actually: http://www.dodgecharger.com/forum/index.php/topic,7603.0/all.html

I'm thinking of going with a two gauge cluster like this:

Would I want a set that lights up at night? I think it would be nice, but may look to ricer.
Also would these gauges run off of the old sending units our will I need new sending units? I'd probably like to replace the sending units even if I don't need to.

Those are mechanical gauges so they wouldn't use sending units.
If it were my car,I would stay with electrical gauges since I'm not a big fan of plumbing hot engine oil into my passenger compartment.  :Twocents:

The problem might be a sagged out oil pump spring.. There is a big bolt in the rear of the oil pump, open the bolt and when you pull out the plug, then the spring should also come out.

I agree with Nacho, since you will be ordering gauges anyway, order up a set of the rubber valve cover gaskets and pop your valve covers, just to make sure that you don't have a bunch of sludge and gunk on the top end. If so, time for more work! Quick question, does the engine have any unusual noises?

As far as gauges, I have used both electric and mechanical gauges, and perfer the mechanical. If you go with mechanical, go with the good auto-meter gauge without the plastic oil feed hose, the hard lines are tons better!

The only werid noises I've noticed is a tapping sound from the drivers side bank (I found that the header gasket leaks on the exhaust stroke)
