:shruggy: the question is this, are neutral safety switches on 71 to 74 B bodies the same for standards and autos.? does anybody make a new one? i'm converting my auto. to a 4 speed and was wondering about this issue. any info would be helpful :2thumbs: thanx guys, :coolgleamA: TK

You wouldn't have a neutral safety switch on a stick shift.  There are pedal safety switches though so you have to have the clutch in to start the car.  I'd send an email to Brewer's Performance asking about a repop - they might have it and I've heard that they are very helpful.

thanx do you now what it looks like? and what the technical term for it is?   TK :coolgleamA:

the manual tranny switch would it be just for reverse back up lamp purpouse. The neutral safety switch on manual trannies is a switch mounted on clutch pedal assembly driving ground to the starter relay. I think similar to emergency brake pedal switch.

I had a 72 R/R with a standard tranny , and I had to push the clutch pedal all the way to the floor to start the car. I may just eliminate it all together, what say you guys? :scratchchin:

Personally, I like the idea of the safety switch.  That way if my kid would happen to play one day with the key nothing would happen.

posible, yes... two ways to do it... directly ground the clutch pedal wire or the prong on relay. Alse there is relays without the prong and already grounded to relay case. I have some of those NOS ones.

BUT IS DANGEROUS... I wouldn't do it

heres the deal , my car is an automatic and i'm converting it to a 4 speed, so I have none of the electrical on this matter. what I need to know is what can I get to make it as serviceable as possible. :shruggy: and is it possible to wire the back up lights from the auto. to the 4 speed using the same wiring harness. i've all most got all the stuff together and am ready to get busy  :2thumbs: so I want safety so please give me directions    thanx guys  TK

just need to change the tranny plug as far I know to fit to the reverse light switch

Tranny harness is basically the same, just the brown wire is changed and doesn't run anymore to tranny. This splice willl run now up to pedal clutch inside cab with a grommet throught the firewall...

what year exactly is ? laters manual trannies cars ( 73/74 ) have a seatbelt warning relay ( or interlock ) that will have a little bit more involved.

thanx nacho, the car i'm working on is a 74 road runner. I didn't think about the seat belts , what do I look for on this issue? thanx   TK

Charger-Bodie

i used to have a 70 383 4spd charger and it had the clutch pedal switch ..... im not a huge fan of needing to push the clutch pedal in to start the car because of the fact that it can be hard on the thrust bearing on the crankshaft , so i hooked the wiring for theat switch in with the ebrake light so that the car wouldnt start if the e brake wasnt on .

Underdash harness does have a neutral ground terminal available but dunno if this one can be used to the starter relay. I'll check the 74 wiring harnes and will update you. 73 model does states a box on diagram with some different stuff to manuals, does look not hard to modify/addapt. Dunno if also 74.

definitely you are educating me , so please continue. I especially like the idea of having the E brake applied to start instead of pushing the clutch.  :2thumbs: any wiring schematics would be appreciated. thanx TK.

Nacho-RT74

I have complete schematic of 74 wiring... I can send it to your email account. Just there are 3 sheets missed, and one allmost imposible to read, but the basic for the mod is there. Are you good with wiring diagrams ? This is not like some of those around with ilustrated plugs, they are more technical...

and no, you will always need press the clutch to start the engine... is SAFETY.

On wiring does appear E brake is related to the system but just with buzzers on 73 and with interlock on 74.
