My attempt at an OEM lower control arm

Hey gang...

This is MY attempt to duplicate the original cosmoline look of the lower control arms for my '68 Hemi Charger R/T.. Think it's hokey? I even tried to duplicate the run marks of the original cosmoline dipping process of the control arm.. Had to make sure the runs go down the length of the arm, not from top to bottom in it's installed position like I've seen some.. What they forget is the arm was dipped and dried hanging from the lower ball joint attach point....

The color looks more gold than it really is because of the flash..

I'm not trying to create a trailer queen, just something of which I can get a car to look something like the Pro's would do, but I did it in my backyard and garage... I'll be getting all the suspension paint markings as well for whatever I can come up with in my research...  It's a challenge, but oh so much fun !!!

If there was a smilie to give a long low whistle of appreciation, I could put it up here.  Nice work.

Krylon Battery Protector is available, hit and miss, at auto parts stores.. I ordered mine online from a company that specializes in Krylon paints.. I'll check it out and post a reply... I believe it was R.S.Hughes Co Inc. Do a good search on them and then search on the site for Krylon Battery Protector.

The Matte Finish toned down the gloss which I like better.. It should clean/wipe up easily with that applied... We'll see when she dries. I'll go out there and spray some Simple Green or something on it and see how it wipes...
I decided to get rid of the black torsion bar anchors and redo them in "cosmoline"...

Cool dude, looks good. I used Cosmoline in a rattle can. It took many many coats then some sunshine drying time. The pics are in my '70 resto pics thread at pg.2

Hey Big..

The coats on that look like the spray cosmoline I bought.. It was REAL thin and would have taken alot of spraying and drying to get a good coat.. Dayclona also sells it, but wanted something sooner..........

Yep, it took many coats, and around 4 days of coating it then setting it in the sun. The rattlecan cosmoline wasn't fun, & I hope it doesn't eat the silver paint on the arms. That would suck.
