Look what showed up at the local cruise night...

So I made my way down to Lansing, IL last weekend for the first of their downtown summer cruise nights. It's where I grew up (and where my parents still live) so I thought it would be cool to hit the local show.  Too bad none of the weathermen had a clue about the thunderstorms rolling through the neighborhood....  :pullinghair:  I guess my new towels & chamois needed a workout....  Here's a shot of the car being violated in the rain.... :-\

So the storms rolled out of town after an hour or two.  The show was pretty uneventful for the rest of the evening (typical pherd and chebby fare) and just as I was getting ready to bail out and park the car for the night, I look up and see the exact duplicate of my Charger go rumbling down the street.  For a brief second, I thought someone was stealing my car.  :scared: (I'm the one in the foreground here)

He did a lap around the block and, as luck would have it, the POS car parked in front of me pulled out just in time for him to take the spot.  It was sundown by the time he pulled up, so none of the pics are great, but you get the idea.  Turns out this guy is a Mopar nut (and serious collector) from the Valparaiso, IN area and his car is virtually identical to mine.  Both are QQ1 blue, C6B blue interior, column auto, buddy seat 383 cars w/ ac & p.s.  Only real differences are that his is a 2bbl car with manual brakes, while mine was a 4bbl car with power (drum) brakes.  They're identical down to the detail that they originally both had black vinyl tops that have since been removed, and both now have "'incorrect" white RT stripes added.  Great minds think alike I guess.   :coolgleamA:

My car had been drawing it's fair share of attention all day long, but once this twin car pulled up, it was nuts.  I think the Chebby and Pherd guys were feeling slighted, as they soon went home.  (maybe it was cuz the show was almost over, but I'll assume differently :nana:)  There was a solid crowd around both of these cars for an hour or so until the Hoosier headed back home.  I had hit a few shows in the previous week now that my car was driveable, but this was the first time I'd seen another 68 Charger.  Thought it was pretty cool to see the exact duplicate, so I thought I'd share....   :2thumbs:

PocketThunder

How cool is that!   :yesnod:

A local member here Tipopiola has my same color 68, PP1, but he's gonna take years to get his car done so i'm safe for the time being.  :nana:

I wont have that problem with my 69 unless i'm at a show in Houston  :icon_smile_big:

remember last year the guy contacted me here with the road runner built just prior to mine?...
his vin ended in 03 and mine is 04.. both sales bank cars identical down to the color and the three options...

i love that pic too,.. though it don't look like the other guy noticed you,.. too bad he wasn't flashin the V sign or a thumbs up...  :ahum:

I can see how you would think he was stealing your car!  That is nuts!

In today's world of disposable bellybutton cars, it's not difficult at all to find 2 or 3 of the same exact car in one area...but to have that happen to a '68 Charger, that's a whole 'nuther story! :o

Way cool, thanks for sharing the story & pics.

The Aquamax...yes, this bike spent 2 nights underwater one weekend. (Not my doing), but it gained the name, and has since become pseudo-famous. :)

That's cool!!  When I first saw the photo of the two cars on the street, I thought you had done some "slight-of-hand-trick-photography" to have your car in two different places at the same time. :icon_smile_big:

I guess I know where to take MY charger when it's done!! That way we can have THREE of a kind parked in a row!
(The only difference is mine is a 440 R/T, has a white interior, and was originally vinyl roof-less). :2thumbs:

Bring it on down, Magnumcharger!     We definitely need more Mopars (let alone Chargers) at these local shows around here.

No, I didn't think to check the sequential number on the vin, but the numbers on the fender tags were about 40,000 apart.  I seem to recall his vin showed the car came from Hamtramck and mine was built in St. Louis.  And don't worry, he did notice.  I was just getting the camera fired up when he was giving us the thumbs up and trying to ask details from across the street.  The picture got obscured a bit by traffic, so I decided not to post it.  Also, it kinda looks more like he was giving us the finger...   :slap:

I just have to go to Dukesfest and I can find a bunch of identical cars. :icon_smile_big:

That is just too cool to have that happen. Two guys who don't know each other find themselves at a local cruise with almost identical cars. The odds gotta be pretty high. Did you buy your lottery ticket on your way home. :icon_smile_big: By the way, I think your car looks great. :2thumbs:
