Guys,
I looked through and did not see any topics on this car. I was wondering a few things? First, what do you think the car will bring? Second, have any of you ever saw the car in person? Third, are any of you close to the car so you can go see it? And last, is the antenna in the wrong place? I thought they were on the passenger front fender on the 68? I am looking at this car to as well as a project that I want to put back into this condition. What are your thoughts on which way to go?
Thanks,
Kevin K

Maybe $30K there is NO way I'd spend over $2500 on a car unless I see it for myself...way way too many stories of junk being peddled

Hard to tell from the pics but it seems to be getting pedaled by a dealer and they would never ever lie about a cars condition to get a sale.  It looks nice enough but for my money, it's been bid up into RT territory and four speed or no, I wouldn't be ready to pay that much for a 383 car.  But maybe seeing the car in person would change my mind.

that's an impressive car,.. the interior condition is pretty exceptional...
don't know about the ant tho...  :slap:
if it's as nice as it seems the price seems about right these days... hi-po four speed in great shape with some nice options...
white int and top turbine bronze...   :scratchchin: if ya wanted THAT combo it's worth it... IMO.

Well, I am confused about the antenna placement. I have looked at many of your 68 pictures on here and they show the antenna on the front fender where I thought it should be. This car has it on the back quarter. Was it moved back there by the owner? If so, it would not be that original right?

Right.  The antenna should have been on the fender from the factory.  So maybe when the add talks about some repaint in places, they are talking about the front pass fender where the antenna hole was filled.

When I bought my car the antenna was in the same place. When I blasted the car down to bare metal there was not hole ever filled on the front fender. My car did have a radio when it was new. It's listed on the fender tag. The antenna on the rear quarter was a power antenna so someone installed it later on. The only thing I could figure is that someone changed out the front fender at some point. When i first saw this car I started wondering if maybe Dodge put some rear mount antennas in. I sure hope not. I had the rear antenna hole filled in when the car was repainted.

Ghoste

Definitely no Charger models with rear mounted antenna.  The 68 in the pics does look to have an original style one back there so it may be the correct one, just moved.

The current price of $27K seems about what they are worth, but for that much I'd want the R/T as well. The 4 speed always gets a higher amount, so maybe. You'd also have a tough time duplicating & restoring one for less than that price. You have to see it in person to be sure it's not a POS doctored up to sell, that's too common to not consider.

By the way, I like the rear antenna look whether it's correct or not. I'd have a hard time wanting to drill the hole myself, but I'd leave it if it were there.

But then you miss seeing it bending back at high speed.  :D

if you look at the engine compartment and if they had better picture's of underneath the car, I bet you would find some very serious rust issues........................unless I seen it up close and personal $15,000 tops............

I know I have beat this issue to death before - but this is a documented, original (allegedly #'s matching) 383 cid, 4-speed, 4-bbl car - only 259 were made in that configuration (19,013 with 383cid, 4bbl were manufactured - 18,754 had automatic transmissions).  Aside from any rust/other condition issues - it is  well worth $30,000+ IMO.  It also is a little unusual to have the console/ shifter set up.  Most had just a buddy seat and no console.  Also, don't quite know what the set up is under the ash tray - looks to be some sort of add on - could be some fader/left/right adjustment dials for the radio since there appears to be speakers in the door panels (factory installed reverberator??).

Also, a little unusual to have a stock right side mirror (a plus).

It's nice to have a good copy of the build sheet.  Maybe someone with the build codes could lay out all of the details of the vehicle.

I disagree. While R/Ts do fetch more money, any big block 4-speed 2nd gen is going to come close to R/T 440/auto prices providing the cars are in simlar condition. IMO, if that car is in as good of shape as it looks to be I'd say $35k-$40k is not out of reach.

i agree with bull. 4 speed cars are highly desirable, and in this case(1 of 259 built), it is far more rare than your average 68-69 automatic R/T.. which those in comparable shape bring 35k easily. i wouldn't be surprised if this one goes over $30k

It looks like the right shifter to me. Looks like the early '68 Inland.

I don't know what's up with that antenna though. :shruggy:

WheresMyCharger

I purchsed 2 NOS drivers fenders for a 69 over the years and had to drill both for my radio antenna. The first time I put it in the wrong spot, too close to the firewall and couldn't get the base on. :icon_smile_angry:
Have you seen my old '69 Charger??

Why were you drilling holes in the driver's side fender for the radio antenna :scratchchin:  The radio antenna goes on the passenger side front fender.

seller states he doesn't know what the staining if from, I can tell you because i looked at a silver 68 that was repainted with out taking care of the rust and was doing the same thing......"RUST!"  pretty obvious coming from the front pillar post front window corners and rear sail panels on both sides from the staining, I know this is a very very rare car but to be asking top dollar or guess worth you have to take in concider its rust issues...............odometer looks a little uneven to for miles stated..............sorry I'm just picky :scope:

Well, the guy would have been a lot better off to say he knew very little about the car instead of trying to make it sound like a survivor. The engine compartment looks rougher than the rest of the car. The seats and the rest of the interior show more age than the dash bezel. Then there is the out of place antenna. When I called to talk about the car the man answered my questions but gave no added info. If someone is close it would be worth a look to see if it is what he says. If anyone makes it to see the car give me a shout.

With 50 minutes left what do you thing the final price will be?
