I got a friend of mine saying that his 2005(could be 2006) stock 6speed G35 can beat a 1969 383 Charger at the 1/4 mile.  He even went on to say any stock Charger.
Now I've never had the pleasure of hitting the pavement with a Charger, so I couldn't really say much, besides the fact that if a petite 10 year old girl were to lean on the G35, it would dent the sheetmetal.

I know the Charger is a heavy-a$$ car but Nissans are known to be heavy as well, but how possible is this?

The G35 will run around a low 14.2 if its the coupe, the sedan, a 14.6. I think the 383 powered charger was right around 15-15.2 stock. Anyone else have hard facts on the 383 powere chargers 1/4 time?

It is pretty quick and it's stock times are in line with a 440 automatic car back in the day. BUT the Big block will have a better chance with moder day tires. A lot of people don't take 383 cars seriously, but they can be rattlesnakes. It all depends on the time spent tuning the Charger. This is where the little roller skate shines.

But in all honesty, there is NO WAY to say Such and such car WILL beat any such and such car. The guys that run the pure stock musclecar drags most likely can show you a stock 383 Charger that will smoke that Zcar. No doubt there are 383 Chargers the z will outrun.  I know a guy with a 383 Road Runner that will blow that z into the next state but it has been worked a little bit.

It's the same underneath as the Nissan 350Z. Interestingly, the G35 gets beat by the 350Z from 0-60 but is faster 0-100. Road tests for the 2007 models show 0-60 in 5.6 seconds and the 1/4 mile in 13.9 but it's more powerful than the 2005. I couldn't immediately find 1/4 mile times for the older car but the quoted 0-60 time is slower at 5.9 seconds. Obviously the 6-speed is faster than the auto and there are two different engines available. Assuming he's talking about the top model I'd say it will easily beat a 383 1969 Charger but maybe not "any stock Charger". Hemi Chargers typically run 0-60 in the mid-high 5 second range and the 1/4 mile in the mid-high 13 second range. Motor Trend tested a 440 R/T at 6.3 and 14.9 seconds. Of course some new rubber on the older cars certainly helps! The Infinity is obviously better on twisty roads.

Sarcasm detector, that's a real good invention.

then, ask him which back seat he'd rather have a date in?..  :D

The answer is: who cares? The G35 looks like a UFO that crash-landed on a dumpster or possibly the ass-end of a coffee-maker.

:iagree:

When there's 30-40 years difference in technology, I don't see how they can be compared anyway.  I think it's apples to oranges... :Twocents:

When I had a corvette I always herd my friends honda civic can beat your Z06. My answer was and at the end of the day your friend is still driving a civic and I am still driving a vette no matter who wins! I hate when people come up and try to get me to race. I honestly would say there not even in the same class and wouldnt waist my gas on him!

G35 is one my favorite newer cars, but to say it'll beat Charger is all depending on drivers.

G35 will most likely beat on a stock 383 charger...      now...    get a stock 440 4-speed 4.10 geared charger with some drag radials and tell him you want to play...

Why do people continue to compare horses to rice anywayz??

2005 - 1968 = 35 years difference...  ::)

There is an issue of Car and Drive from 1967 in which they tested a Hemi Charger.  Car & Driver, Nov., 1967 got  0-60 time 4.8 sec with a '68 and mid-13s at 105 mph for the 1/4 mile.

I've got a fall 2006 issue of Hot Rod, in which they show vintage photos of muscle cars.  They also show quotes from older issues about the Hemi Charger 500.  In the February 6, 1969 issue of Hot Rod Steve Kelly wrote:

"We buzzed the stick car to six grand for each shift.  The 4.10 gear brought us through the traps in high gear at 5200 rpm, using a 29-inch diameter tire.  Best time with the stick-shift machine was 13.48 and 109 mph.  As we said, a Hemi will go in the 12's with external touching-up, but a really good teardown-and money-will put a Hemi-stocker at the 11-second break even mark."  Steve Kelly, HRM, Feb. 1969
