Pitting in clearcoat

I have some pitting in the clear. Paint is 8 years old. The problem is that dirt stays in the pitting even after normal washing.

Can I sand down the clear (not thru) and shot another coat over it?

Thanks!

has the car been wet sanded after it was painted? Sounds like dirt got into clear when it was painted, you'll have to wet sand it then buff it

yes it was wetsanded after it was painted. I think there was some bubbling in the clear and it was worn away into pitts.

more like fisheyes

or like solvent pops! or like moisture! whats up with you silver ? you give the guy an idiotic response and then you treat HIM like an idiot geez get real! by the way it could possible BE fisheyes also but i dont think he asked what is was just what he could do to remody it!! :brickwall: :RantExplode: :RantExplode: :brickwall:

by the way 3x green if the surface imperfections dont go all the way to the basecoat you could probably sand it down to the bottom of them and reclear it but chances are it will break thru somewhere and you need to spray more base on it then clear....good luck keep us posted

Ok, ladies...

Triple, can you get some close-up pics of this paint condition so we can see what you're talking about? If it started as small bubbles, then burst causing pits, it could very well be moisture as 1hot68 suggested. I'm not sure if it would be solvent pop, especially on a paint job that's 8 years old. Solvent pop usually occurs right away, whereas moisture can take some time to show up before it rears it's ugly head.

What ever you do, don't sand on the dirt or you'll grind it into the underlying layers.
Clean it out best as possible first. Try using a pressure washer. Then clay bar. Then
maybe a mild solvent such as wax and grease remover or adhesive remover to remove
as much dirt as you can.
