Hi Everyone

I have a spare oil pump that I got with my car years ago and just wanted to know how hard they are to install. Could I do it while doing an oil change?

Also what should the psi be for a 383 BB mine seems to run around 15psi but sometimes it jumps up.

Cheers
Andrew

Before contemplating a pump change based on unsatisfactory pressure, be sure the gauge is accurate. If you're basing the readings on a factory gauge, I would verify the reading with a direct-reading gauge first.
Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.

John, What is a direct-reading guage? I want to check mine. I was looking at the parts store but wasn't sure what to get. Thanks.

the big block pumps are easy to change in car
direct read guage is just a mechanical guage that screws into the block

I think what John means is what He and I probably have in our boxes. A guage set of proven quality with a lot of adaptors for reading all kinds of line pressure, oil press., P.S. press. etc etc. You probably don't have this and really don't need to spend for it either. Just go to your local auto parts store and buy a quality oil pressure guage hook that up and see what your pressure is doing. Then if you want to be a stinker, return it, BUT I never trust the factory oil or temp gauges, too much riding on it, good luck.
