This is more of a personal gripe of mine, but I say don't buy the '69.  If you have to replace your ignition switch/key assembly it'll cost ya a few hundred; meanwhile the '68 and '70 guys laugh all the way to NAPA and buy $40 brand new pieces...

What is the difference between the 68 and 69?

Every car from 1962-1968 used a small switch mounted in the dash. For whatever reason Dodge used a different, larger switch in 1969 only. The lock cylinder is also unique to this switch. Maybe it had something to do with going to column mounted switches in 1970. Any way, they are/were hard to come across but I thought I had read that they were being reproduced (I just can't remember by whom).

i agree with most of what was said, however i have two cents to add:

I bought my '69 stripped and rusted from a junkyard, ( Pics below) i knew it was an R/T SE auto air conditioned car which was what i wanted but beyond that i wanted a project car, I wanted to build my own the way i wanted, basicly a '69 street fighter based loosly on Dick Landy's super stock '69 only with a six-pack motor and a/c.
so if ya want to save yourself some headaches by all means by a fully sorted charger from someone who's done the hard part/s.
I'd suggest a total $30 K budget for a Big Block four speed to start and at that price it will probably be green...
If you don't care for an R/T or four speed, or SE package, your budget is right on.

IMO:

good luck & happy hunting!  :yesnod:
