RB Non A/C pain in the pulleys

What a pisser.  I had set up my motor with all the pulleys last summer and have now decided to add power steering. Well,,,,,,  I bought a steering pump and brackets and though the pulleys do align, the crank pulley diameter is too large and causes the belt to rub the water pump pulley.. 

I did a search here and found out that pulleys are many peoples nightmare. 

I have the early, (Federal), I think pump and no A/C.  I have looked on line at a few site and found only a few sources.  Year one, 440 source and Mancini. I could use a hand on this one.. I've been trying many pulleys I have hung onto over the years and have been mostly doing this   ... HELP.....

I just went the other way on my 68 chug 383, I'm pretty sure the water pump pulley you have is a non ac, does it have a long nose, so it (the pully) covers the water pump. The ac ps have the water pump belt run round the crank pulley and the water pump pulley with a jockey wheel. Heres a couple of pics. If you want bigger files give me your email.

I'm going to hit a pretty big bone yard on Tuesday so I'll see what I can find. You never know what's going to be in this place from day to day and thousands of people are through there every week, SO,,, maybe I'll get lucky.

I think I found what I need with bouchillon but I'll have to call them on Monday. It seems like everyone carries them for 66' and newer but not 65' and back. I found that Year One has the wrong ones they are selling for 65' and back.

Mancini isn't close either.  What a pain in the bearings.. I should have gone bone yarding while I was in Vegas..

The p/s belt hitting the WP pulley is fairly common on big blocks....I think they did this from day 1.

Some have tried shorter belts with decent results.  Mine rubs as well but if you keep proper tension on the belt it wont flex as much & mark up your freshly painted pulley.

Also others have had the pullied powdercoated to withstand the slight rubbing....

Do you know the diameter of the water pump pulley you have on the car now, and the new diameter needed?  I have a water pump pulley that is 5 7/8" diameter, if that will help you.

There is a guy in Washington State that I buy allot of stuff from named Irv. I spoke with him last night on this and he is sending me a lower pulley that should fix me up. I will post my results as soon as I have it..

Chris, this lower pulley I have really causes interference with the water pump pulley. Not just a belt vibration rub. It would work well with later model P/S pumps as they hang much lower than my Federal pump. 

This  has to stop. I am getting a headache..
