directional in 69 hood?

I'm painting a 69 charger. The hood has cut-outs for directionals with metal dummies in their place painted the same color as the car. Is this what should be there?

Yes.  The turn signals were an option and if the car wasnt optioned with them you would get the block off plates instead.

I wonder how many got trashed over the years as people added the indicators to cars that never came with them?

The signals or the block off plates?  They do make the repro signals...  It wouldnt take much to fabricate the block off plates.
