What do NASCAR and the WWF have in common.

As I have mentioned in another post, I have a close friend that is a NASCAR official. Every week I get to hear about the behind of scenes stuff that goes on at the track. For years, my friend has been telling me that NASCAR is turning into the WWF, and he is correct. Todays race was the perfect example. As my wife and I were sitting there watching the race with 37 laps to go, they start running down the list of all the drivers that will run out of gas with only 1 or 2 laps left. I tell my wife, NASCAR will throw out the caution with 17 laps to go, I was wrong, it was 16 laps to go. The caution was for trash in turn 4, and if you believe there was trash, I have a bridge in London I would like to sell you. NASCAR cost Tony Stewart the race. Jimmie Johnson was short fuel, and could not make it, so was Kennseth. The race was Stewarts to win. But NASCAR had to stick their hands into the mix, and screw with it yet again. Now I am not a Stewart fan, I am a Newman, Jr. and Kasey Kahne fan. But I hate it, when race after race, NACSAR has to mess with the outcome of the race. Stewart should have won that race.

Do I think NASCAR can determine who will win the race, no. But I believe they can give the driver they want to win every opportunity.

I agree.

I usually tape the race. I listen to it on the radio and if it sounds interesting I'll watch it later. Todays race was so boring I even turned the radio off. I watched the last 9 laps, lots of empty seats, usually the spring race is a sellout.
Also here at the NHIS track in New Hampshire there use to be a waiting list of 20 thousand+ for tickets. Today they were advertising that there were plenty of tickets left for both races this year.  How much longer will it take for the France family and Mike Helton to drive NA$CAR into the ground?

I noticed the empty seats as well. From the start of the race it looked like the bottom 20 plus rows were empty. When you bring in Toyota, and throw mystery debris cautions to help determine a winner, people tend not to go to the races.

You go to wonder how the attendance will be affected by the inroduction of that car of tomorrow next week. Can't wait to see the reaction.

Could they possibly make that thing look any uglier???

Only thing I do not like about the COT is the rear wing :-X   I can deal with the rest.

I don't like the wing either, but I don't think the rest of the car is that ugly. In any case, if the wing makes the racing better, I'm all for it. I for one am trying to go to the Phoenix race just to see the COT up close and in action.

Besides, it's not like the current cars, with their distorted assymetrical bodies (for 'aerodynamic' purposes) are exactly pretty either.

You kidding me. That thing is butt ugly now. Looks like a freaking rice burner. Especially with that wing and weird front spoiler thing. If they were going to allow the wings again, they could have at least made it look like the wings from the daytona's and what the hell is up with that ugly front adjustable spoiler thing. More ways for nascar to come in and do more violations?...
Nascar: oh, your spoiler is .001 off the rule. VIOLATION!!

actually, the wings will be randomly handed out by NASCAR before the races, like they do with restrictor plates. The teams will be able to adjust the angle and the side plates (either curved or straight) as they please from that point on. The front splitter will also be adjustable. Ugly? Maybe...but the wings and front splitters have been in use in other forms of racing (and with good results, I might add - look at the NCTS) for years and years, even before they became ricer fashion items.

They still won't look nothing like the production models their based on, but it's not like the current cars do either.

Look at the NHRA - the "Mustangs", "Chargers", and others that they run are even farther off from those models but no one cares, because if you ask any pundit, it is some of the best racing out there.

Geez, yeah those boys are having some rough luck.  Not fans really of either, don't dislike them but not my favorite drivers.

Afflyer

My interest in NASCAR gained a whole new setting when Dodge came back into play with the Intrepid, back in '01.  My interest peaked in '03 and steadily went downhill after my driver, Sterling Marlin, lost his edge after breaking his neck in Kansas.  I was sorry to see Coors Light insist they drop him for a younger face, and even sadder to see Sterling drive a Chebby now.

If I watch any race nowadays, it's the Daytona 500, both Bristol races and my homestate favorite; the Brickyard 400 in Indy.

Not much more than that can be seen on my television screen.  I'm discusted with Jimmie Johnson, even more so with the friggin cocky commercial he has on race days where he has one of his team mates bring out the Nextel Cup trophy to block any attempt of assistance Elliot Sadler has to give...that commercial really pisses me off and makes me loathe Johnson even more.  :icon_smile_dissapprove:
