I have a 440 that does not crank. Worked good yesterday. I have power to main connect at the starter. The smaller wire there is no power even in the start position. I can jump the 2, and it rolls over. I tried moving the shifter all around to see what that did. Nothing. Neutral safety siwtch??? Where is it??

on a 727 it's on the driver side and it has three prongs on it you'll see the wire harness that leads into it fairly easy..  I don't believe that's the issue.  I have mine unplugged cause I got the wrong one in there but the car starts just fine. I think I need to shim it or someting.  My reverse lights stay on in drive when it's plugged in.

What kind of ignition you running.  Stock or electronic.

Bad ground maybe.

Re-trace your steps, you said in another thread that you replaced a cam yesterday.  You probably unhooked the battery for that I imagine, is it possible that the ground connector on the battery is either still loose or maybe has come apart, etc......

Just some thoughts.

Life isn't Father Knows Best anymore, it's a kick in the face on a saturday night with a steel toed grip kodiak work boot and a trip to the hospital all bloodied and bashed.....for reconstructive surgery. But, what doesn't kill us, makes us stronger, right?

Check to see if you have power in the yellow wire at the starter relay when the ignition switch is in the crank position.

Then check the small brown wire at the starter relay to see if it's grounded when the transmission is in the park or neutral position.

It's not a midlife crisis, it's my second adolescence.

Thanks for all the ideas. I am getting power from the yellow wire to the relay in the crank position. It is not sending the current through the relay to the starter selenoid. I can "jump" the connection and the starter engages. I replaced the relay. Same problem. Go figure. I will try another relay.
