My 71 has the N96 option hood. Were all of these hoods blacked out from the factory? Can you tell by the build sheet? The car has it's original paint but it is so thin on the hood that it is hard to tell if it was blacked out. The hood would have orange paint under the decal right? Here's some pictures.   thx   matt s

I've never seen one that wasn't blacked out.

maybe if you like black out just the bulge and leave rest of the hood stock color

The thin center blackout is '71 only as far as I know. '72 to '74 hoods got this paint treatment.... There is also one for the '73 & '74 cars that was basically the same as this one but the sides of the buldge were left body color were the engine displacement emblems are.

WOW DGGuy!  That Rallye is gorgeous.  :o

Not sure on the hood blackout deal.  It is possible that someone didn't like it and had either the dealer remove it or had the factory omit the black.  Remember this is Chrysler we are talkin' about.  :icon_smile_big:  I'm guessing that it faded over the years and someone buffed it right off.

Bulid sheet should tell you, but as you said it is Maw Mopar. Just like Hemi Cuda's and AAR Cuda should have a driffrent front fender than normal ones. But if they where not there line people stuck on what ever was in front of them. Can't stop the line! :flame:

Look's like a orginal paint as well, that is great. Won't run into old body work and it is easy to strip as well. Paint in that shape I could have it to bare steel in about 6 hours. Maybe a little longer but not much.

The 73 & 74 Chargers seem to be the ones more often to come without the hood blackout on them though..........

Thank you.
Very informative.  My car doesn't have a bulge hood...yet.  When I do, it's going to be correct!
