I went to Monicatti website and looks like the 83/4 sure grip unit is around $700.00. If my 68 R/T has a factory 742 case, is there anything else I'll need to purchase to do a swap? (stock one was not sure grip!) Part # P4876118. Am I missing anything else? I get really confused about the 741/742 differences and whats needed to do the trick. Also, Ive got 3:23 gears now, Id like to go 3:55 or so, want some scratch, but also to drive on highway once in a while...sound smart? Do you just specify when you order these units which ratio you want? Anyone know of a better price for new ones? (clutch type) :icon_smile_question:

I'm guessing by the price that you are purchasing a complete pig?  If so, the only thing you'll need will be rearend dope, limited slip additive, and a gasket.

Ok, the unit is just the SG part itself...another question though...I called around today and it seems the only ones available new are the cone type, no clutch type is made anymore. Can anyone else confirm this? Also, I guess Ill have to get the ring & pinion gears seperate. Mopar perf. doesnt seem to make any stuff for the 83/4 only the 81/4 and 91/4. Anywhere else i should look? Id really like to get new stuff if I can and have a clutch style SG with 3.55 or 3.91 ratio. Someone tell me if this is do-able...

If you can find an old one, you can still get a rebuild kit for the clutch style ones.  Did you try Randy's Ring and Pinion, I thought the clutch style was available again from somebody?
Also, the limited slip unit won't care which case it's going into but the ring and pinion will.

Whatever you do .  Do not buy a cone type suregrip.  you can buy an Auburn unit from these guys.

I would suggest keeping your eye out in the for sale section here on the site and on ebay.  I bought me a 742 case complete dropout unit with clutch type suregrip.  On ebay for under $400.  It had the wrong gears in it.  So I had to buy a new set of 3:91's. $130.00   You might find one witht the correct gears.  But the suregrip was fine.  And even if you wanted to be safe you could have it rebuilt.
$700 is way too much for just the suregrip unit.  Someone is bending you over! :o
