Any Parts Worth Keeping on a 318?

I will be pulling my old 318 at some point and was wondering if there were any parts contained in/on a 318 that would be worth keeping.  And no, I don't need it for a boat anchor.  Thanks.

Carburetor C-clips and tiny cotter pins. ANY nuts and bolts. Otherwise ... To answer your question NO.

I'm (semi) kidding. I couldn't give my 80K original mile 318, trans, driveshaft, rear end away. I  finally took them to the JY.

Can any parts on a 318 be used on a 340?  Valve covers, crank, etc.?  It'a a 69 318 and I already got the PCV valve and gasket off.  They are the same as on the 440.  The oil breather cap along with the hose clamps that go with it also are the same as a 440 so I got them.  And it appears the power steering pump is the same.  Don't know about the brackets yet.  And I got the fan and fan clutch off as well as the coil.  I can't think of anything else that might be useful besides all nuts and bolts as Is it ever done recommended.

Valve covers yes, crank no.  Yes, the brackets and pulleys, and pumps and things like that are all worht keeping.

318s make good demo derby engines. They seem to run a long time without oil or water.

Wow, do I agree with that.  I've been to two stags where they held a pool on how long you thought the 318 would run without fluids.  Both went way over what anybody guessed and at one, after the engine seized, they let it cool down and then restarted it!
I've also seen a lot of abused 318's on the end of irrigation pumps.  I grew up in an area that did a lot of fruit and vegetable crops and those guys would run the irrigation pumps for hours and hours without checking the drive engine.

Mean 318

Starter and alt are same from BB to SB.

I thought the 318/340
cranks were the same?   :shruggy:

if it has a 4bbl manifold i'd be interested :)
Daddy ran whiskey in a big black dodge
bought it at an auction at the masons lodge,
Johnson County Sherriff painted on the side,
just shot a coat of primer then he looked inside,
well him and my uncle tore that engine down,
I still remember that rumblin' sound.....

You're right, my bad.  I was remembering a disaster years ago when we tried to use a mix of 318 and 360 parts in a dirt track engine.  340 and 318 are the same stroke.  Sorry 'bout that.

I forgot about the starter and alternator.  But I thought that the starter in a 318 was a 1.3kw unit and the one in a big block was a 1.5kw rating.  Sorry Bandit but it's a 2bbl.  Would the crank be a forged or cast crank?  And would the rods be the same as in a 340?

Ghoste

It should be a forged crank for that year.  The rods interchange although 340 rods had floating pins IIRC.
