Just wondering how hard it is to get a deal on a car that is not in your vicinity. Most of the times the guys who show up first get the car (can't blame the seller though)..almost every deal I find are somewhere NOT close. how many of you guys got a good deal lets say in another state when you found it on the internet?

I try to help people out and post my findings here in the classifieds section. Just curious if a member got a charger through an ad I posted.

When I was shopping for my Charger I found it pretty difficult to "look" at cars that were far away. On a couple of occasions I had some people go and look at Chargers for me but it's time-consuming, bothersome and inexact. I'd much rather see the car myself. That said, I believe no matter where you are in the US you can find a specific-year Charger that's for sale within a half-days drive if you look hard enough. Ask around in you area (especially talk to body shop guys, restoration shop guys, etc.) you'll find one close.

Not sure but I found mine within 15 miles of my house after screwing around for two years looking thousands of miles away.

I bought my 69 charger off ebay a couple years ago for 7500 bucks..  It came with a rebuilt 69hp longblock.  Interior was complete and original.  The car doesnt have any rust on it.  The ad stated it had new quarters and new trunk extensions put on.  Come to find out.  the trunk pan was a piece of sheetmetal screwed down where the old trunk floor was.  The extensions were some offbrand which didnt have the coorect contour as the originals, and the quarterpanels were not buttwelded when applied.  they were overlapped and not done just right so one side made the rear extension not match up correctly.  The paint looked good and shiny from 20 foot, but will have to be all redone.  The seller stated he had all the parts to put the car back together, and a large collection of extra charger parts.   I drove 9 hours 1 way to pick the car up.  The car is super solid except for the before mentioned.  All the extra 69 and 70 charger parts filled a 24 foot Uhaul truck to the max.  I was new to the mopar hobby at the time, but soon realized the value of the parts.  I have easily made back the origianal 7500 dollar purchase price of the car by selling parts.  So in a sense my car was free and then some.  I guess you could consider it a good deal.

I live in Atlanta. I bought my Charger on eBay and it was in Sacramento.

I looked at the ad carefully (including printing it and reviewing it with a couple of friends) just to make sure I wasn't missing anything. I made a huge list of questions for the seller then called him on the phone. I wrote down every answer then told him I would get back with him.

I reviewed the ad some more and went over my Q&A and made second list of questions. I called him a second time. I bid on the car with the understanding that if I am the auction winner I would not make a deposit but instead bring the full amount within a week.

I won the bid, flew to Sacramento with my brother and looked the car over. It was as-advertised so the deal went without a hitch.

We had a fantastic roadtrip from Sacramento to Atlanta. :drive:

This method has worked good for me. I later made two more eBay purchases, a Blazer(in Phoenix) and my Dakota convertible (in L.A.)

I hope this helps.

PS: I'm an airline employee and I get to fly for free, so when I actually looked at the vehicles I didn't have a dime yet invested.
