Need a little help with exhaust diameters. Either Flowmaster exhaust system kit 2.5" or 3"  Will  1/2 inch make that much of a performance difference?

440 .40 over, port/polished stock heads,  Keith Black pistons, Comp Cam 230 Deg, Hedman Headers, Edelbrock 750cfm carb.

Life isn't Father Knows Best anymore, it's a kick in the face on a saturday night with a steel toed grip kodiak work boot and a trip to the hospital all bloodied and bashed.....for reconstructive surgery. But, what doesn't kill us, makes us stronger, right?

Some say unless the engine is making over 500+hp a 3" dia. exhaust might actually hurt performance.....dont quote me on it though.
The larger diameter prevents proper exhaust backpressure/scavanging

:iagree: As long as the pipes are Mandrel bent.....2.5in is fine to 475-500hp. The mufflers are just as important if not more so. A chambered muffler is very restrictive....and should be avoided in any performance application. X-pipes work great too !  ;)
