Happy drivers/unhappy drivers with a TF-904 and/or 8-1/4" rear what HP/torque you are running and for how many years? Also interested in those who tried this combo and had it fail (details of the failure encouraged) .  What Mods have you done to the tranny or rear to make it last?

Thanks.

LOL with this many success stories it is easy to see why everyone favors the 727!

from my experiance with   904 tranies and 8 1/4 rear ends are ok for a 318 that will drive you around town. My mom and dad bought a 74 charger SE in 1988 or 9 (I was 6 or 7 at the time :icon_smile_big: ). it was a 318 W/cruise control, 904 , 8 1/4, budy seat car,   all origional. in 1996, after always being on the road, a few 500 mile trips from northern CA to Southern CA, the 8 1/4 blew. My dad was trying to cross a busy road from a stop sign. he had an opening, gunned it, hit some loose gravel, spunn the rear tires, then BAM!!! The car stoped in the middle of the intersection luckely some people stoped and helped push the charger out of the intersection. Then about three months later we found a 72 charger with no motor or trans. it was also once a 318/904 car, but the seller had a 440/727 in it until he let his son use it as a daily driver. only to let it run out of oil   :spank: . they even still ran the open 8 1/4 in it. My dad and I then took the 318/904 out of the 74 and put it into the 72. later through the years we hung a valve, it now has a 1985 318 out of a van. then I lost reverse while in high school, about 1999. for the next 2 or 3 YEARS (I know I deserve a   :spank: too) I had to be picky about where I parked of my friends had to push me out (I was basicaly a taxi in HS). about a year after having it "rebuilt" it began to slip out of high gear or just not engage at all. n   trany shop to make them finnish the job that they where paid to do   :icon_smile_angry: . my 72 is now stitting in my garage in UT, waiting for the time/funds to fix her up right! a 440,   keisler 5 or 6 speed,   and a 8 3/4 or dana 60 are planed for her!   :icon_smile_big:

My 72 Charger has a 318/TF904/8.25 rear with a 2.71 peg legger.
She's definitely a cruiser not a bruiser. I've put 11k miles on in 5 years. I've made 4 trips to Carlisle with it hauling me, the wife, and 300 lbs. of tools/spare parts, etc. Several times in 90 degree heat and have had no problems.
I've seen that motor of yours you are building. your not thinking of using a 904/8.25 behind it, are you??

From the looks of your motor the 8.25 rear end is out of the question.  Get an 8.75 at least.

I've had a 904 now 999 behind my 360 for about 30 years now.  The only reason I pulled it out last winter and upgraqded it was because it was leaking so bad, still worked fine.
But for you, a 727 is the better choice.

It's not a midlife crisis, it's my second adolescence.
