New addition in the house - revisited

It's been really hard getting past losing my buddy Shadow in January.
My sister and her family down in Texas have been really nice to us and the kids wanted to get us another dog. As I mentioned in here before we were planning on adopting a dog from the GSD rescue in Northern Utah but with birds in the house we were really concerned about losing a bird to a new dog that has not been socialized with them from a young age and couldn't find a young dog.
We also considered that Shadow's disease was likely genetic from improper breeding which sadly is rampant in American German Shepherd blood lines and is now also common in many other popular breeds.
For this reason we decided that going with a German import line might help just a little against possible future genetic problems. ( This puppy is guaranteed against all genetic defects)

Sooo.... we got a new puppy!

She comes from a kennel in Texas and her parents came from Slovakia and Germany. The kids wanted to buy her with their allowance but that would have taken about 10 years so my sister and I did it and my brother in law paid for the airfare to ship her up here to Utah. Family can be really great!
We now have a new 2 month old terror in the house and it's.....interesting and never dull.
Now I have another buddy to work on cars with me  :2thumbs: but she can never replace Shadow :'(

Thanks again to everyone who understood the pain in losing my buddy and my apologies for the huge post!

teach the puppy to grab a 9/16ths wrench, and youll be all set!

Thanks guys!

As for her name, following the registration standards I have to register her with a name that matches the litter number. She is from the 5th litter so her name has to start with 'E'.
We wanted to name her Lexie but decided on Elexa and Lexie for short.

Right now everyone calls her bear because she is so big for 2 months and lumbers like a big black bear cub.

I'm trying to get her used to the garage so she can be around the noise and tools but right now all she wants to do is chew on everything.
Soon we begin Schutzhund training!

she's big for two months old. i like that. my bo has all the problems that sheperads have . her back hips are shot but she's hanging in there and still getting in trouble. i wish people were more like dogs. Rene

what a face on that dog.

Yeah, she has her grandpa's face. He was world seiger (champion) in 2000 and is a huge and beautiful dog.
Mother was class champion in Slovakia and her face is on a magazine cover and a brand of dog food.

We're debating whether we would want to breed her once in a couple of years and give a pup to my sister and keep another for us.

Thats a good looking pup! Pretty girl!

I'm picking up this little girl tomorrow.

GTX, cute pup.  I love Shepherds!

GnR, that is one cute Husky!  A friend of mine as a big Husky/Malamute mix and scares the crap out of visitors to the house.  Your little one is a real cutie!

Below is a pic of the ex-Afghan Army bomb sniffer we have at our compound now.  The locals are all scared to hell of him...that's becasue they haven't seen him prancing around with his pink squeeky bunny! LOL

Cheers,

Congrats GTX, she's a great looking girl!
I know what you mean about her wanting to chew on everything...at that age, everything has to pass the "taste test". :icon_smile_big:

The Aquamax...yes, this bike spent 2 nights underwater one weekend. (Not my doing), but it gained the name, and has since become pseudo-famous. :)

GTX

Thanks!

My arms and hands look like I got caught in barb wire and my shoes have little razor teeth marks in them.
It's amazing how fast she can disappear and find a shoe to chew on. She has even found shoes that we thought we lost!
We also made the mistake of not totally puppy proofing the house and she broke a $350.00 Tiffany stained glass fireplace screen. Who would think that a fireplace screen would be tasty?
Thank God this only lasts a short time but the puppy memories are half  the fun of having the dog too.

GTX

Hey, it's been almost a year now since we got my new puppy and just over a year since my best buddy died :'(
I thought I'd post a picture of Lexie now that she is a whopping 14 months!

Pretty cool how they change so fast but sort of sad to see the little puppy gone.

I know a few others got new buddies about the same time. Post up, I'd like to see!

That's awesome!! She's looking great. Always loved GS's.  Had a wolf hybrid once because the guy was going shoot him.  I opened the door to my Ramcharger and said let him in.  He used to keep him tied to a tree with chain(i mean big chain).
Anyways, he ate my bathroom once(couldn't find one hinge)

Sadly, since I live alone, I could not spend the required time to properly take care of him so I found a mother with 3 kids that took him in.  I was happy he found a good home.

I would love to have a dog, but they require the right amount of attention so it wouldn't be fair to them.  I believe a pet should be able to roam the house and be part of the family(in other words, my house is their house) But I just don't have the time to treat them right(gone all day or whatever)

I'll just have a virtual pet through ya'll.

My buddy has a GS that stops up every now and again.  Kind of roams the neighborhood.  Sometimes I come home and he is sitting on my porch like he lives there.  I keep food just for that reason and let him in to hang out for a while until my buddy picks him up. :icon_smile_big:

Life isn't Father Knows Best anymore, it's a kick in the face on a saturday night with a steel toed grip kodiak work boot and a trip to the hospital all bloodied and bashed.....for reconstructive surgery. But, what doesn't kill us, makes us stronger, right?

GTX, Lexie is gorgeous! Mighty fine shepherd.

This is Halie, we got her the same time you got Lexie.

GTX, here is another pic of Halie and her "big brother" Rex.

GTX

Guns, that's a REALLY pretty dog! We almost adopted one of those but were afraid it might eat my parrots.
She has really grown , those earlier pictures hardly look like her now. Lex really seems to like those dogs. We were at Petco the other day and although she recently has been getting a little aggressive even towards others dogs she saw one of those and they just stood there and stared at each other. Lexie was surprised to see a dog with white fur and blue eyes, she had never seen that before!
After about 3 minutes of staring she decided that other dog was cool and wanted to go play but the girl who owned her wasn't too sure about Lexie.
I can't see, does Halie have blue eyes?

Guns N Rotors

GTX, Halie has dark brown, almost black eyes.

This is my second Husky... both hunted birds, squirrels and other small
animals relentlessly.

I don't think Huskys and parrots would get along. :rotz:
