I made my Dad buy a 68 Firebird in 79, I already had my red 68 Charger, and he would not let me
have two cars. So I made him buy it, 400, 4sp, hood tach all original except one fender needed
replaced, we bought a brand new one from GM.

So I can say   :shruggy:  no way would I do that, the 68 Firebird is a sweet car, I had fun in one  ;D

I'll never understand why people do that to a classic. No offense to anyone who's done it but why? To me it's like getting your ear lobes stretched out to get those big rings put in.

Charger-Bodie

i could see it back in the day because the cars were almost free and there was alot of novelty involved but to do it now would not be wise :Twocents:
68 Charger R/t white with black v/t and red tailstripe. 440 4 speed ,black interior
68 383 auto with a/c and power windows. Now 440 4 speed jj1 gold black interior .
My Charger is a hybrid car, it burns gas and rubber............

At least that one's a real 4x4...as opposed to this lunacy.

The Aquamax...yes, this bike spent 2 nights underwater one weekend. (Not my doing), but it gained the name, and has since become pseudo-famous. :)

Arthu®

??? Why would you want someone to do something like that? I personally think 4x4's are 4x4's and muscle cars are muscle cars, the two don't mix very well IMHO.

What's crazy is that's a real sub-culture.

'Donks' is what it's called IIRC (Maxim had a story about 'em a couple months ago in fact).

I remember seeing some on my road trip from MI to TX.

In fact, in AL there was a late "80s Caprice with musta been 24s or some ungodly huge rims on it.

Look like some one had slapped a lift kit on it to get those rim under there. ::)

Sheesh!

It's never made sense to me, even back in the day. It's not like having a car body on a 4X4 frame makes it a better off road vehicle. I guess I just don't see the logic in doing all that work and spending all that money for such a weird novelty.

HAZZARDJOHN

Not a Classic or a mopar, but A buddy of mine at the MinneSSota impala SS club owns this. It has 3/4 ton Chevy axles and leaf springs welded to the stocl wagon frame. It even still has the factory LT1:

He bought it this way becasue it was too neat to pass up.

Here is all his cars, Small Medium and Large

I think it is a Silly concept but I guess if you are bored and have money back when these cars were cheap, I guess.

well, that's the generation gap for ya.  I'm one of those crazies with a spike thu my eyebrow and tats too!  :D

I think the most important thing is to just not sweat it.  If someone had done that to the ONLY charger in the world, then I'd get upset, but there are plenty of them out there, so it's not that big of a deal.

I'm not upset, nor do I think everyone should share my opinion on how cars should be treated. I'm just trying to understand the mentality.

personally if i had a rusted out base line charger body laying around, and a good 4x4 chassis & running gear(it would have to be dodge) I'd probably do it, if anything hell, it is sorta getting a charger back on teh road....and the mud...and the rocks.....and the sand.....
Daddy ran whiskey in a big black dodge
bought it at an auction at the masons lodge,
Johnson County Sherriff painted on the side,
just shot a coat of primer then he looked inside,
well him and my uncle tore that engine down,
I still remember that rumblin' sound.....

??? Is that your plan? If you are actually are going to do that (than for one I hope it will be a long time before you turn 21 because you better get started there is a lot of work to do) than that would be the first time I will actually follow the Dakar rally. I am sorry I just never really understood offroading, because there is a perfectly good reason that you shouldn't have to do that and that is because we invented a long long time ago something called roads. They are more comfortable, faster and safer to drive on. So unless you live in a place where there really are no roads than yes I can understand buying an offroad vehicle. Btw buying on and than go looking for a place where there are no roads doesn't count.

I kinda dig 4x4 cars. It's not only different, it is something you dont see a lot of.
