Thanks for reminding me about the transmission...

I couldn't justify a new one with the amount of use it was going to get. For the amount of distance driving I do I could live with a 3/4 ton Ram or F250. I still won't buy a new one though - I have too many other things to spend money on. ;)

I like how we are hi-jacking this Ford thread to complain about Dodges...kinda counter productive. ;)

I should mention that my '05 was bought used....I let the original owner drop almost 10K in less than a year because he wanted something "cheaper" to operate.  :brickwall:

Hey, I was on topic for the first part... ;)

I did the Ford/Mopar debate for a long time before buying the Cummins. Didn't even consider the Chevy diesel. Of course, no one had a factory twin turbo then either! I don't plan on towing my cars after they are road worthy but I don't think 572's car is street legal so he has no choice. :D

I have high hopes for this one
6.4 litre...ya it's tucked a way  back there with that cabover design.....Most all engine electronics appear to be accessible...which is a good thing...serpentine belt looks wicked to replace...no more high oil system to deal with....lots of repair concerns in this area...Very quiet with nice throttle responce.
Most big engine repairs require cab removal....We take the cab and front fenders attached off the frame with the hoist and then these trucks are easy to work on....can be done in a little better than an hour with some practice......then my back don't hurt.
Gotta fix Fords to buy Charger parts

what kinda gas mileage you getting on your truck troy?  I have a 99 cummins with a 5 spd.  I just travelled to the columbia, mo swap meet and went 564 miles with one fill up(28 gallons) at 70 mph pulling 2200 rpms, which equates to 20mpg.  If I were to go 55-60 mph everywhere I would get 22-23 mpg.  I have an extended cab, long bed, 3/4 ton.  And it is my daily driver.  I love it.  I had 3 400's, 3 sets of heads and other stuff in the back and hit grades of about 6-8 degrees and had it on cruise without it missing a bit in 5th gear.

I have a 4x4 dually automatic so I won't get nearly the same mileage as a 3/4 ton with a 5-speed. I can usually get around 18 loaded or unloaded but I also drive faster than you. ;)

well the 4x4 sure doesnt help with gas mileage, but it could be worse... you could be driving a 78 Ford Pinto :D
