a friend of mine is restoring a 1970 Dodge Superbee. Its oil pan has the number "402" on it as shown in the photo. I was told by another guy that this is one of 500 Dodge Coronet model cars built for NASCAR qualification for Dodge in 1970. Can anyone really tell me WHY the number is on the oil pan's bottom? This car also comes with a unique "Power-Bulge" hood. Maybe Joe Dirt would know?

The "402" oil pan is the stock HP model that has baffles in the pan.  All HP 383 & 440 engines received it.

Never heard of the nASCAR thing though :scratchchin:

Me neither... sounds like a sales pitch to me.  Not too many '70 Coronets were raced in Grand National, since the front end wasn't exactly very aerodynamic (not very aesthetic either, but that's just my opinion).  Maybe Dodge gave away 500 of the '70 Coronets just to make sure that they qualified for Nascar...   :D
