alternator for my 440

I recently bought a alternator from summit ,and in the page with all the alternator the highest ampage one is 60 amp then last nice i was looking through my catalog and found a 75 amp.my question is do you think the 60 amp will run a car with a power fuel pump and decent size stereo amp.and a/c.or do you think i need to return it.thanks

I don't know why a 60 wouldn't be adequate as long as you aren't adding a bunch of stereo stuff.  It would easily run an elec. fuel pump and stock stuff.

As I have stated several times, I would go once for  lates 70 stock Mopar alt... dirty cheap on any junkyard and able to drive around 80-90 amps. Is a plug and play job.  BUT WOULDN'T GO without wiring upgrade Running wires from starter relay stud and alt stud up to amm on cluster, throught firewall with a grommet.

If the 60 amp is pulling a huge load, turn off the stereo and turn up the right foot. Its music for your ears.

TuffStuff makes a 100 amp alternator that works great on my 440 with electric fans, vacuum pump and stereo amplifier.
The 60 Amp alternator was not enough.

how about without the fans im useing a belt driven fan but a eletric fuel pump.and a 400 watt amp

From my experience with my 70 charger and other information I have read,, the stock alternators generally put out enough power for the stock car accessories. Anytime you add additional accessories that draw power a alternator upgrade is usually needed.

If you do upgrade your alternator you should also add an additional wire from the new alternator to the positive side of the battery to help distribute the power and not overload you original stock wires ( don't want a FIRE )

The Tuff Stuff  alternator I installed  had a built in regulator ( you can order it with or without a built in reg. )

New stereos systems don't need that kind of power to get worried, even stock alts are able to drive them, since they aren't trasistorized anymore ( not like the old ones at least )... Modern audio amplifiers are integrated circuits low consumption. If you notice fuse coming with stereo wiring, they aren't bigger than 5 amps. Average load is around 3.5 amps as much for a regular 40watts x 4  stereos.

Unless you install powerplants of course, and also depends of output power maybe neither need to worry.

Now, Electric water pumps, fans, gas pumps... yes they do need relays and more powerfull alts than stoc... but I think on 90 amps you will be fine. The first need you need to cover is the alt will be able to feed at engine iddle. For a while alt is able to charge at iddle, then on max consumption of car, alt won't send high peaks to get worried.

note again: UPGRADE WIRING UP AMMETER AND BATT... THAT WILL BE A MAJOR NEED AND UPGRADE. Stock wiring isn't able to drive more than 50 amps, and even in that way they are weak for a while you don't get a good average charge at iddle to save from power peaks pressing gas pedal.
