I just picked up a Sure Grip center section for my 8 3/4. The diff. was still in the original rear housing. When I took the diff. out, the fluid was alittle thick, but seemed to be clean. (No water). The yoke and gears spin very free.
What is the best way to clean the diff. out ??  I also have to store it until the spring.
What should I put inside to keep the gears from surface rusting???
Thanks
Pete

That is how I have my centers and one Sure grip (used) stored, waiting to be used. I will use any type of degreaser to clean them. Break/carb cleaner. Just blow it our, so you do not thin down the new gear oil once instaled. the gears will be dry for only a few minutes, so they will not have time to rust. If you are not sure of the gear mesh, you could use the marking compound to check the mesh at that time. I know I will before installing mine.
