Flaring out rear quarters?

Hey guys,

I was wondering what your thoughts were on flaring out my rear quarters a bit, to provide a bit more tire clearance. My rear quarters are shot anyways. Would it ruin the lines of the car? Is there an easy way to do it without making it look like complete crap? Just looking for some input.

Surely you realize that flaring the rear 1/4's also means moving the wheel wells out too, right? That would be a lot of work just to get wider rubber under there.
2nd gen's can already fit some pretty wide rubber under them without flaring 1/4's, you just need the right amount of backspace, etc.

The Aquamax...yes, this bike spent 2 nights underwater one weekend. (Not my doing), but it gained the name, and has since become pseudo-famous. :)

Man those were hideous!

Only reason I can see for flaring a panel is for a race car replica, like a Petty clone.  Other than that, nah

with the right rim, you can fit 305 width tires in a stock wheel well without moving anything.  you would have to use a low profile tire in the 17 or 18" range too.  I have 295/50/16's on mine and there is still room.

They did it on the Silver Bullet but I forget now if Plymouth had done that before turning the car over to Jimmy Addison or if Addison did it.  I think it was Addison.
