First of all Merry Christmas everybody.

Im in a Rural part of New York visiting my folks for christmas.

Most of the great old cars here are long dead from salt and the weather.

But alot of engines live on.

I plan on buying as many as I can find in the short amount of time that Im here.

So my questions are............

1. How much should I pay for a complete but "unknown" 440.
As in all the parts and free spinning, with no easily visible damage, but other than that a crap shoot.

2. 727 Same as above

3. 4- speed  ( I passed up on one last time I was here because I thought the guy wanted to much, but come to find out $300 bucks is cheap I guess.... gah!)

4. What year should I try to find and why.

5. What year should I try to avoid and why.

6. What is the best way to tell the difference between a 440 and some other random engine.

7. What about a 440 and a 383?

8. Number decoder for the engines?

9. Anything else you would like to chime in about.

At one point I saw a great write up about the differences in years between the 440's posted in the forums,
But I can no longer find it. Anybody have it book marked?

Anyway thanks for your help and Merry Christmas.
