Paint over paint?

I've started sanding some panels to commence on bodywork but a couple of pieces are in really good shape.  ie doors, trunk.  The previous owner looks like he just mostly painted over the factory paint so my question it this.  If I don't strip every piece all the way down to the metal, will it be noticeable from the ones that were stripped?  And if I can go that route, do I just give those painted panels a good scuff before I paint over them?

Just my opinion here, but bodywork/paint + short cuts = a very poor finish that will come apart sooner rather than later.

you can scuff  it paint it   or wet flat it sealer it paint it !!   or  da it & few coats or primer & block  them! then paint it  !!
but who knows what the last guy done  , or even how good that paint was prepped  ,  don't do it

Well, if there's even the slightest chance of it sacrificing the paint's integrity or appearance it's gotta come off.  Looks like there's plenty of   in my future.

Well, it's either that or just do like I had to do and replaced pretty much every panel!!

chargd72, just an after thought. Prep is everything. One way to go would be to strip everything off the car you can......bumpers, trim etc. Do all the sanding yourself then take it to Maaco et all and buy a $500 paint job. Lots of us work with tight budgets so your plight is not uncommon.
