Members of the Washington, Mo., Volunteer Fire Department assess the damage to a Main Street shop called the Hudson House on Wednesday night.

The connected building to the right had an internal collapse, causing the wall of the Hudson House to cave in.

Residents of the apartments above the Hudson House were rescued from the windows. No major injuries were reported.

Didn't see this thread until just now - it was the second building around here to suffer a failure, after the New Haven Lumberyard made the news with its roof collapse on Tuesday.  Not a good week for buildings here in good ol' Franklin County...

I know some of the people involved in the downtown Washington building - including the owner - and I feel very sorry them, for what they will have to go through to make everyone whole again.  That apartment building next door had only recently been renovated, and the grocery store (on the other side of the building with the problem) had to be closed down.  Very tough situation for everyone to work through.

One of the apartment building residents was home when the adjacent building collapsed.  His quote was something to the effect of "I heard the oddest noise, so I went to the door to see what it was - and the hallway wasn't there!!!"   :o

Oh, and the Hemicar is safe (for the moment) in my garage at home - and it has a 10/12 pitched roof  so there's not much snow buildup on it...
