It's bad enough that there are so few of the B-1B "Bones" left in the inventory.  What is even more discracefull was the fact that the "Bone" is a CREW oriented aircraft, and as such, the right seater was responsible for backing up the left seater on his checklists.

If it were an F-16 "Lawn Dart" I would never have given it a second glance, as it is a single pilot who sits in the seat.- hence the popular name "Lawn Dart" we in the AF flying community give the F-16.

Too bad.  That "Bone" will be lucky if it escapes Davis-Mothan AFB sooner than originally planned.

Just thought I'd mention
I did in now way intend this to be a slam to our military, to which I have the highest respect, these guys are the best of the best. shit happens to even the best and highest trained. I do question the stated reason for the crash " pilot/crew error". though IT happens, I would tend to believe mechanical failure before crew.

I don't know anything about the source of that statement.. and you know the internet.

cool pictures though. :o  to bad it was the B1 that's my favorite bird of them all :rotz:

Hey Afflyer, do you guys have a pet name for the f22 yet?

Charger_Fan

That's gotta suck for that crew, I bet the ass chewings will still be going on by this time next year! ;D

The Aquamax...yes, this bike spent 2 nights underwater one weekend. (Not my doing), but it gained the name, and has since become pseudo-famous. :)

Major Kong

Looks in suprisingly good shape for landing 10ft too high ;D

wonder what a Buff would have done to the Blacktop.........

dkn1997

No offence, and I love the military too, my brother is in special forces "over there" and another friend is a major in the army as well but.....

I dont' wanna hear "shit happens"  If it's really true that they just forgot, then this is a class A fuckup and those guys should get the ass reaming of a lifetime.  and taking $20/week out of their check is not gonna cover it either!! ;D ;D ;D

i agree it's more likely that some mechanical failure is to blame.  There has to be some sort of warning system to tell them when the gear is up and the plane is...well....not!! and probably redundant systems on top of that...

Nope.  None that I've heard of.  Not yet at least.

In case all you guys who pay for my flight suits wanted to know, here is a recent list of current aircraft flown, and their "pet" names we give them;

My obvious favorite; C-130 a.k.a.; "Herky" or "Four Fans of Freedom"

Then there are these:  B-52 a.k.a.; "BUFF" or "Big Ugly Fat F%cker"
                                 B-1B a.k.a; "Bone"
                                F-16 a.k.a.; "Lawn Dart"
                                A-10 a.k.a; "Hog"
C-5 a.k.a.; "FRED- or F%ucking Rediculuous Economical Distaster"
C-17 a.k.a.; "Barney" (parked next to a C-5, one thinks of "The Flintstones")
                                KC-10 a.k.a.; "Goochie Bird"
                                AC-130U Gunship a.k.a.; "U-Boat"
C-130J a.k.a.; "Job Killer" (from a flight engineer and navigator perspective)

Those are just a current list that I can call right off the top of my head.

Good pics of that B-1 belly landing though- it's a classic!

Thanks Bradley,

That's a great list. what are you flying?

Afflyer

The latest addition to AFSOC; the MC-130W.  It's a totally refurbished 1987 or 1988 H2 1/2 "slick" C-130 from the National Guard units of West Virginia and Idaho, to name a few.  They go to Warner-Robbins AFB in Georgia where they are gutted and totally redone to AFSOC mission standards.  It's practically a brand new Herk when she rolls out of the hangar and is flown down to Hurlburt Field!

C-130 :yesnod: very cool plane, I don't know much about their different configurations, but do know they're  well built, I've walked the build line at Dobbins AFB in Marietta Ga. and seen them in action above our cabin in the mountains here in WA. flying out of Larson AFB, I guess. can't tell you the rush I get seeing military aircraft flying through the mountains, I'm talking tree top level, sticks forward :o and the screaming sound a c-130 makes when it's really ripping :yesnod: that must be a kick in the pants to fly one.

you can probably tell, I'm a bit envious....just a bit

How the hell does a pilot/co-pilot forget to put down the landing gear :image_294343:

what is the shp on the PT6 on the new and old C-130`S ?
Earth. Even the word sounded strange to me now... unfamiliar. How long had I been gone? How long had I been back? Did it matter? I tried to find the rhythm of the world where I used to live. I followed the current. I was silent, attentive, I made a conscious effort to smile, nod, stand, and perform the millions of gestures that constitute life on earth. I studied these gestures until they became reflexes again. But I was haunted by the idea that I remembered her wrong -Solaris

That would suck. You're seconds away from touching down, safely ending an 11-hour flight and then while realizing "why haven't the wheels hit the runway yet" WHAM.
Sixty-eights look great and the '69 is fine.
But before the General Lee there was me - Headrope.

If you have no vision or creative spirit, you can always fall back on the way the factory did it.

I can only speak for the Herks fitted with the Allison T56-A-15 engines.  I have no knowlege of the J-Model Herks with the six-bladed Rolls Royce engines.  Hell- everything is "automated" on that bird- including the flight engineer- hence the name "Job Killer" from our perpective.  :icon_smile_angry:
The static, standard day, sea level, takeoff rating of the -15 at 100% RPM (13,820) is 4,910 equivalent shaft horsepower (ESHP); 4,591 propeller shaft horsepower (SHP) plus 319 ESHP resulting from jet thrust.

The rating of 4,591 is net power to the prop shaft and does not include any accessory loading that is normally required when the -15 is installed on the Herk.

Normal allowance for the reduction gear assembly and accessory assembly losses is 100 SHP.  Therefore, the installed prop SHP for the -15 is 4,491.

Ask a flight engineer a question and he'll have the answer!  :icon_smile_big:

What I dont get is that the plan we jumped out of has a device that gives off a warning if you are too low to the ground and the landing gear is still raised. I'm surprised that this million dollar aircraft doesn't have this $300 piece of equipment.  :rotz:
