Anybody use elec. water pump on the street?

I bought a '68 Charger with a 383/auto. The car is a former 1/4 mile car and has the dc drive motor running the water pump. I have seen the after-market pumps from summit that turn more RPM's than what the set up that I have does. Are these safe to run on the street? I'd post a pic of what I have but I don't know how to shrink it down.

 One thing I use a ruel of thumb, race car stuff does not last on the street. In your case drive it, if it run hot replaces it with a stock set up or a higher RPM electric pump. Does have a Temp gauge right?

I base my ruel of thumb on race bearing's I ran on some street engine so I might be off base on the reply. Race stuff, 500 miles is 4000 passes, that is a lot of winning

Drive it, watch the temp and see what happen's. Watch around town big time I will add.

It all depends if it's a race pump or not if it will last for street use, GM's have had electric water pumps on some of there engines for about ten years now,

Which type do you have?

Neither one of those pumps. Mine is a small motor that actually runs a belt from the elec. motor to the water pump pulley.

If you are running it on the street you had better make sure it has a t-stat in it... Many- most racers don't use them. Others drill large holes in them.

It's a good thing it's NOT an A/C PUMP!!
