i am putting a sixpack bolt on scoop on my 72 charger. i was gonna fiberglass it on but because fiberglass will not give and steel will it might crack. a friend of mine told me about a product that would be perfect 4 the job but he couldnt remember the name. he gave me this description. it looks like a giant tube of toothpaste and comes with hardener. it is made to do just the kind of thing im doing. it works like flexable fiberglass. it costs about 18 bucks. i know that is a vauge discription but if anyone knows what it is please let me know, i asked the fools at advanced about it and they said they had never heard of it.

Daytona R/T SE

This stuff is like 30 bucks a tube and you need the $80 gun to apply it...

thats not it i need stuff that will bond from the fiberglass scoop to the steal hood and smooth out like bondo or fiberglass. it is smaller than the one in the picture and doesnt require a gun to put it on.

Calvin,
The stuff Daytona R/T SE showed you is perfect for the job. It is panel bonding adhesive, 3M makes several kinds designed for both steel & plastic/fiberglass. When used properly, the stuff is as strong or stronger than welding.

The only thing I can think of in a tube with a separate hardener as you describe is finishing plastic, which won't bond ANYTHING.

And, Advanced Auto Parts does not sell auto body supplies. The closest thing they have is some rattle cans & maybe a can of Bondo.

Go to your local auto body supply store & tell them what you plan to do. They will show you what you really need.

bill40rt the stuff with the gun isnt what whaty i need. i dont need something to hold the scoop on because it bolts on from the interior. i finally got the name of the stuff, it is made by evercoat it is called fibertech reenforced repair compound filler. it comes in a big tube and it looks like purple bondo hair, it acts like it too eccept it actually works.

Calvin,
I pulled up the tech sheets on this product, very impressive actually. Never heard of it. Here's a link:

However, the title of your post reads, "what do i use to bond a hood scoop to a hood????"  This Fibertech stuff is not what you'd use to BOND the scoop to the hood, but what you would use to fill the seams AFTER it's bonded to the hood. Although this product sounds very impressive, I'd fear it will crack over a short amount of time.
Simply bolting the scoop on & then spreading this stuff over the seam will not be sufficient, it WILL crack. The tech sheets all show something either welded or panel bonded FIRST, then using this product as a joint leveler.

The BEST way to do this is to both use a panel bond adhesive & bolt the scoop to the hood. The hood will have to be ground down to clean bare metal in the area of the bond, & the scoop will also have to be ground to bare fiberglass. Use the correct adhesive approved for both metal AND fiberglass/SMC. Wipe away excess adhesive that will ooze out. Featheredge the area after it's dried, & use this Fibertech stuff to smooth out your seam. That will give you a permanent bond that won't crack over time. I'd hate to see you do this the wrong way & have it crack, 'cause it'll cost you DOUBLE or MORE to do it over again.

You might be able to get some of the panel bonding adhesive in smaller quantities, I think Fusor sells it in smaller tubes that doesn't need a special gun. 3M & Duramix are other very good brands, but again you need a special gun to apply them.
Good Luck!
