this may be a stupid question but i will through it out there anyway.  If i allready have a gallon of single stage paint can i still shoot clear coat over it or do i have to get a base coat paint to use clear coat to get a good shine.

You can, but you don't need to.  I just shot a 73 Barracuda in a single stage urethane and it turned out nice.  Yes it has some orange peel, but it is sanding right out and buffing out to look like a mirror.  Just make sure you pick what you want to do.  A gallon of single stage may not be enough paint.  I dumped a gallon and a half on the Cuda which is significantly smaller than a Charger in terms of body area.

If a gallon was not enough & you only got 2 coats on the car this is not enough to rub. SO, You can buy another gallon or thats a better reason to just use your clear over it. If you wanted you could even let the Single stage dry, Wet sand with 600 & then Clear. LEON.
