383 Water/Crank Pulley Problems - Need Help

I recently completed a s/b to b/b conversion on a 73 charger and now have a '69 383 installed, but am having a *&*^* of a time getting any pulleys to line up.  I have gone thru 12 different pulley combinations and nothing seems to work.  Last night I borrowed a stock set of pulleys from my buddies 69 charger with a 440 and they don't work either.  The problem with the stock set is that the back grove of the crank pulley does not line up with the water pump pulley at all, but the back grove will line up with the p/s.  Also, and this is the problem with most of the pulleys I have tried is that water pump pulley hits the crank pulley. My question would be this - what are the chances that the balancer is not installed far enough back, or are there different balancers that could be installed on the motor that would cause my problem.  Any other suggestions, or troubleshooting would be GREATLY appreciated. thanks

thanks for the reply...what would I match them with given that I have stock pulley's and they didn't work.  Which pulley set would I order and do you know where I could purchase them?  Thanks...

Spent another 3 hours messing with the pulleys and have decided to go with the March Pulleys to see what happens.  I can accept the alternator and p/s pulleys not lining up, but something doesn't make sense that with any of the sets of pulleys that I have, that the waterpump and crank pulley all hit each other???  Thanks and will let you know what happens with the new pulley system.

Remember, A/C setups are completelly different from non A/C. you could have been trying to match different setups, and alt and pump brackets are part of set up, same as the water pum pulley with pre72 iddlers ... pics of what you have would be helpfull

Any set up you decide to go, I would like to see what do you have and are trying to match just to know.

Thanks Nacho...all of the brackets and pulleys I have are for a non-a/c car.  My camera went missing so pictures are going to be difficult at this time, but what I have done is taken measurements from the pulleys that I have and if anyone can compare to a B/B non-ac set up that would be appreciated. Thanks
