How much HP can you put through a Dana 60 with 23 spline shafts , i realise the 35 spline are better.

Got around 550 horses on the motor , with an extra 300 horses on the nitrous , the 8 3/4 has stood up so far , thought i'd swap it for the Dana , but heard to steer clear of the 23 spline shafts.

Got it now , so will have to stay with it.

TIA.

Adam.

Dana's are pretty tough but if it was me.....i would be upgrading to a 35 spline SST Strange axle. You will also have to swap out the side gears in the SG unit when you do the axle upgrade so don't forget to order those at the same time.  :yesnod:

If the axles are in descent shape it will be fine for awhile....but not indefinately.  :Twocents:

The  D-60 housings will nave a BOM number stamped into the tube just right of the inspection plate. If the BOM (build of materials) number is 602957 and the axles are stock it will be a 23 axle with a power-loc suregrip unit inside. That BOM number is for 68-69 b-bodies with the trac-pac (3.54) and super trac-pac (4.10) axle options.

In that case you will be replacing the axles anyway.  ;)  Pull an axle and start counting.  :icon_smile_big:

Thanks Ron , can,t seem to track down a decode for those BOM Nos. :shruggy:

Thought I'd take the dana to get striped , case powder coated & 4:10 gears installed instead of the 4:50s in there @ the moment  , when the guy was taking it all appart , he found one of the ring gear bolts half hanging out , glad i decided to have it checked. ::)

Those 23 splines are pretty beefy , go 1 1/2 diameter , tapering slightly in the middle of the shafts.

Ron , could you tell me how to decode the BOM No please.

Thanks Adam.
