trans?

Ok guys, I gota ask if it is a good idea to try and rebuild my trans? It a 1970 727 TF. I would like to try to save  some cash, but I dont want to have to do it over in a month! I have never done a trany before. I would like to know what tools I would need,or if I should even try it! My estimate to have it rebuilt with prefomrance kit and converter was about $1500.00! and that is out of the car!!!! Is this something I do myself? How over my head will I get?

having done a few of them , I would pay someone to do it , you need a press & some special tools to take it apart & replace all the internal seals , I didn`t have proper test equipment & got burned on the last 727 I did , ended up doing 3 times for free after it failed 3 times in a row
