Well, I kinda found something very unexpected in my area: a '70 Sport Fury with a 383/727 in it.  It's gonna need a minor restoration....and the guy's wanting $750 for it.

I know that the cops back then loved the cars, but can they be made to handle better than from the factory? are there any aftermarket torsion bars, rear leaf springs, and sway bars made for them?

So......Are the C-bodies worth it?

Hell, I'd buy any old Mopars needing minor restoration for $750!

Actually, I think that was my understatement of the year, lol.

here's the ad for it on the Moparts forums: http://board.moparts.org/ubbthreads/showflat.php?Cat=0&Number=2958988&an=0&page=0#Post2958988

It's about the 4th one down, right underneath the one about the '69 Monaco wagon.

they are great stout cars! wonderful cruisers but too big and heavy to be handelers, but i dont get why you want to make autocrossers out of 4 door aircraft carriers...
"horses for courses", go A body Dart or Bacaruda... like that magazine car...

the green one...

racing cost $ there aint no "bargins"...   imo..  :rotz:

Lightning

hmm....yeah, I guess that killed the idea then.

EDIT: well, it's either an A-body or a F-body, or another M-body.

There's a Demon for sale about a mile down the road, the guy's had it for at least 6 years now, and there's a Scamp in the junkyard, has a little bit of rust on the outside.....there's also another Dart near my work...I dunno if it's for sale though.

does'nt matter if it's worth it to us, if you like the car and you feel the price is right to you, that's all that matters.

Lightning

yeah, I'm gonna go check out both cars here in a couple hours

Ok, just went and looked at 5 cars, 2 A-bodies, 2 C-bodies, and a '52 Plymouth.

a '71 Demon that the guy's wanting $5k for....definately out of my price range,
a '69 Dart GT that had nothing on it, a little rust, and nobody was home,

a '69 Fury III parts car ($350)
a '70 Sport Fury (I think I'm gonna definately try to get it, they're wanting $750 and it has surface rust on the fenders and roof)

and the '52 Plymouth was waaaay too far gone.

you sound like me i was trying to make it in the music biz.. in 1980 i went to LA to become a rock & roll guitarist,..
i learned that was NOT what i wanted to do with my life...
I moved on, got a good job and put togeather a music studio/s and band/s & played for fun...
built my dream charger too...
you could do the same... and in time you'll have a car you can have fun with and be proud of...
y7ou just need a plan and be able to work really really hard for your dream/s...

Well if you do go for the blue 70 fury it's not a bad car.I know the guy.He lives in Holland.Wishnu is his name, nice guy.He used that fury too go cross country with.He came too my house in Staten island NY to check out my 70 sport fury 2 door out.If I had the funds I buy it.Don't under estimate a C-body.I had a 71 Newport u code car that was no slouch. There is a guy with a 70 300 that runs in the 11's at English town NJ.I like them for cruisers.

well, I'm really wondering if there's any Torsion Bars that are availiable in the aftermarket for them....not even Firm Feel has any....

Not trying to crash your party but you should only buy this car as a cruiser you could fit all the torsion bars you want it will never handle for a reasonable price. Anything can be made to handle well (not even really good) but it would cost you tons of money and you would have to go the way of XV Motorsports. Otherwise the C-bodies are just too large and heavy. Buy it as a cruiser and have fun they are good looking cars.

hmm......crap.  I'm needing something that'll be a cheap basis for a race car.....looks like it'll definately be a A- or F/J/M-body.   (Found one in the local Pennysaver for $350, so I'll probably go look at it)
