Well, after a year away from home it still isn't eye candy, but at least it's down off the rotisserie and back on the floor, and has the doors and fenders on. We're hoping that by the end of Nov. the engine compartment and door jambs will be painted, so I can put the engine in and have the vinly top put on before the rest of the body gets painted. Then maybe by the end of the year I can bring it back home for good and spend the winter putting it all back together again.  Looks like I'm going to need a garage heater!

Looking shape Dennis. Why are you going to put on the vinyl top before paint? My bodyshop painted my entire Charger including roof and then had the top installed.I liked the idea of having paint under my top.

Dennis K

We are going to paint under the vinyl top, but the top is going on before the rest of the car gets painted because no matter how careful a person is, accidents can and do happen, and it's easier to repair a scratch or dent before the paint job than after, and putting a vinyl top on requires a couple of guys working around the car for a few hours, so that is a risk for scratches, same with putting the engine in. As much as I'm looking forward to having the car back together, I'm almost dreading trying to get the engine in without getting scratches in the engine compartment, but I have a good hoist with a lever so I can ease it in slowly, so if I take my time I'm sure I can do it. I know a lot of guys put their engines in from the bottom, but I don't have the equipment required to do it that way.

Hey,  can I ask you something?   On your car, see where the rear valiance meets the back lower part of the rear quarter panel?    My lower back corners on my 68 are rusted out, and I was going to try and patch them up for now until a later time when I can afford new quarters and valiance.  I was wondering how I was going patch the back lower corner and if I was going to make a seam between valiance and quarter, or just make it all smooth together.  It looks like you made it smooth as one piece.   So I am glad to see your pics, as I can use this as a model to work from.   Or are you going to cut a line in there to make it look like two seperate pieces?

Why would you want anything else?  Just give me a Charger and I'll be happy.

Dennis K

Actually, the seam between the 1/4 and the valance corner caps is visible, but it didn't show up in the pic because of the angle I took it from and the light from the flash, but a lot of people smooth out the seams and make it look like one piece, and I don't think anyone would fault you for it if you wanted to do your car like that.
