I am thinking about doing a cam upgrade and was talking to Scott Brown at Straightline and he recommended this: 238/244@.050 540" solid with 110 lobe sep. How would this cam be on the street? Would this cam work with my combo?

440 .030 over
Eagle rods
KB237 pistons
deck height .003
Eddy heads with stage 1 port and bowl blend
Aluminum 6 pack manifold with vacuum carbs.

looks like a nice cam
I have used a similar Lunati grind with 243 duration 110 cl .550 lift , it works great with a 2000 -6400 powerband
it is what I would use for most hot stock combos

Might be slightly small, but  better to be conservative a little bit, than to "over-cam". Overall looks like a good cam !

BTW, He didn't give you any .200 duration numbers with the .050 did he ?  Looks like a dedicated .904" lifter diameter ramp speed ? If it is, use the recomended springs.

I don't want anything too big since it is a street car. He did not give me any other #'s yet. He told me to use the Isky 8005-A springs. He said this cam would work good with my combo.

Sounds like a smart guy !  ISKY 8005a is a good spring.

I'd be interested to see all the numbers, specificly the advertised duration and the .200 numbers. It's possible that this cam might have more seat timing than the Comp xs282s so it might idle rougher. We don't really know because that information hasn't been provided as of yet. With 6-packs you want to keep the overlap conservative for tuning purposes.....otherwise you'll be modding the center carb.

Like i said in your other thread in the engine forum, this cam is a little on the smallish side.....assuming you are looking to "step up" from your current Hughes 3038 grind. There will be some difference but don't expect anything dramatic. The biggest gains will come from the cylinder heads.  ;)

He said he was going to make the lobe separation angle 112* for easier street driving with the 6 pack. I know my biggest gain is in the heads. Like I said, I might as well change the cam since the motor will be out of the car. I am switching from a hydraulic to a solid so I know I will feel some gain.

The 112* lsa will really mellow out the idle....should make lots of vacuum and be easy to tune the 6-pack. Good luck with it....i'm sure it will run great with the new heads.  :2thumbs:
