that REALLY SUCKS!! I'd check, and recheck, along with several extra sets of eyes, your car from top to bottom, inside and out. Be sure to check the back wall of your house for cracks, etc.

My oh my.  Once when living in San Francisco an old guy was backing up, pedal stuck (yeah, right), and ran into my motorcycle and pinned it against my darn car (an RX7 at the time), a double whammy.  Good luck on yours.  Kim

I feel your pain man.  Make sure you bring it to a reputable shop, preferably a shop that specializes in restorations.  I am going through a heck of a time getting overspray off of my undercarrige.

Again , we all feel your loss , I hope the car can be put back to pre-accident condition . One more thing , to prevent this from happening again I would install 4 inch round pipes at the end of your driveway that can be easily pulled out of sleeve when you take car out of garage .

Man, !!!!   That sucks......... Hope you're able to get her fixed without too much grief............. Will this be covered under his auto insurance or your homeowner's insurance?

Good luck and nice '69.............

Thats a good question!  Home owners would cover the house.  Will the old guys car insurance cover the Charger? It was on private property and not on the street? Home owners probably wont cover the Charger. Do you have collector insurance on the Charger?

The insurance company will look into their book and total the Charger. It will cost more then its worth according to them.  My advice to you is start documenting every car close to yours for sale. Print out ebay ad's and go get some of the various auto shoppers so you can have prices to show the insurance when they are about to stick you on your "old car".  Its not a classic Mopar or classic Dodge Charger it simply is a 35+ year old car to them. Also do the same for parts that you may need.

Very sorry to hear about this. It makes me as sick as it makes the rest of us. Safe and sound in your garage out of harms way and you are the one thats gonna get the weeny on this deal!

Thanks to all for the well wishes and advice.  I'll be meeting with his insurance this Monday morning at 7:30 and my antique insurance will be sending up an appraiser as well later this week.  Between the two I'll be able to make the better decision to make sure the Charger gets put back to at least as good of shape as before.  You are all correct in saying that my home owners insurance only covered the damage to the garage which came to around $2198.00.  They were there already this past Thursday and cut me the check right on the spot.  So now the insurance will go after his to get their money as well as my deductable.  The same will go for the car if I choose to place the claim under my insurance.

I know of a guy local to me that does great body work and I had planned on taking the car to him this past Saturday morning to get a ball park estimate.  Unfortunately the weather didn't let me do that.  Maybe I get it over there tomorrow as well.  Thanks once again and I'll keep you all posted.

If he would have hit the other door you probably would have only had a few scratches on the bumpers of that truck. What a cruel world we live in.

I got the estimate this morning from my local body shop.  It came to $2720.00.  It includes new rear bumper, new lower valance, paint to the rear of the R/T stripe, repair truck lid, left and right 1/4 extension, repair and paint tail light panel, front valance, and new front bumper.

I thought it would be a lot more.  I'm still waiting for my insurance company to come and appraise the damage.  We'll see what they say the total will be.

Wow, that's not bad at all.  From the pictures I would have figured 3 times that or more.  Let's hope that your insurance company agrees.
I love the smell of nitro in the morning.

Make sure he finds the "hidden damage" that might not be seen.  Be sure to lift up the trunk mat to check for warpage or bowing in the floor of the trunk, look for misalligned moldings or moldings that stick up just a tad and claim it was flat before, etc.  Stuff like that would make up for your suffering nicely in the long run.

Arent you a lawyer now? and if yes, did this incident have anything to do with that decision? :icon_smile_big:

Car's got a lot of pickup. It's got a cop motor, a 440 cubic inch plant, it's got cop tires, cop suspensions, cop shocks. It's a model made before catalytic converters so it'll run good on regular gas. What do you say, is it the new Bluesmobile or what?
