My idea for the New Dodge Challenger!

I've had this idea ever since I saw the first car that had a roof like this...unfortunately, it was a Ford...
Anyway, I'd like to embody this idea on a Dodge Charger someday, but in the meanwhile, a new Challenger would be a prime candidate.
The way I see it, if I can come up with an idea like this, I'm sure that an aftermarket conversion company will likely pull it off in no time after the car is introduced!

That is so slick!  Patent it quick!!!  :drive:

It's been done by other manufacturers I'm afraid!
But I can at least say: that with regard to the Challenger...it was my idea!! :icon_smile_big:

I would vote for a convertible of any type, but that is slick!

Very slick - reminiscent of the Ford Skyliner. However, its novelity was its downfall. The fact that the roof took up almost all the trunkspace was a major factor in the car's demise.  But for styling and a convertible that looked great with the top up and down it was a slick piece for sure. But for the crowd that can afford the new Challenger as a toy car only and not daily transportation - you have a winner there.

I thought the 52 Crown Vicks had that top?

I wonder if the mechanism from the Volvo C70 could be adopted to the Challenger sheet metal...
I realize that it would take more than cutting and bolting, but if that mechanism were able to handle the weight (if there's much of a difference), then a lot of the engineering is already sorted out.
All it takes is a true hot-rodder's frame of mind to get it to work - and the cahonies to cut up a brand new Challenger.  :P
From what I've seen of your projects Magnumcharger, I think you'd have to find a second project to fill up your time because you'd get this one done in no time.  :2thumbs:

really good job. those new hardtop converts are all the rage and flying off the lots...
that reflection is awsome too!

It's a cool idea, however, it violates one of the two cardinal principles upon which all vehicles are sold in this country.

Principle #1:  All persons are Constitutionally guaranteed the inalienable right to their own individual door and cup holder.  Two seat cars are required to have at least two-doors and cup holders.  Four passenger and higher vehicles must have at least four doors and similar number cup holders; if not, the vehicle will not sell well and be discontinued.

Principle #2:  All vehicles sold today must be able to carry tons of personal or collective persons "stuff."  If said space is not available, and no more than two persons may occupy such vehicle, then said vehicle will fall victim to demand laws, causing its eventual elimination from the model line-up.  There are twe exceptions to this principle:  One, is the outrageously expensive exception.  This exception states that even if the car violates the two basic principles listed above, as long as it has instant classic styling and a sticker price that only the very rich can offord, it will continue production in limited numbers.  The second is the well designed and marketed exception.  This exception states that if the car is very well designed, both from the mechanical and aethetical perspectives, and is advertised and marketed well, it will sell in copious numbers regardless of the two main principles described above.

It remains to be seen just how well designed the new Challenger will be, and even more, just how well it's marketed.  With all the new versions of the new Mustang that are coming out from the factory, Dodge is going to have to make up some big time ground in initial sales, and then follow up with some major factory spin-offs and mods in order to keep this new model in the forefront.  Simply having an SRT8 Hemi under the hood and maybe an eventual T/A version won't cut it.  The retractable hard top convert, along with other versions we haven't even considered, will be necessary to keep the new Challenger and actual "challenge" for more than one styling run.

Your idea violates principle #2 in theory.  Although there are several other models being produced in the convertible hardtop configuration, it will remain to be seen how well they fare in the market place.  They may end up being a short term fad, much like the cars from the late fifties were.  Remember that the Prowler had a similar top design.  How long did it last?  Also, how affordable would a Challenger with a top like that be?  As cool as it might be, if nobody can afford one, it won't be around very long.

Just my opinion, based entirely on personal prejudice, and my emotional reaction.  I'm probably wrong............
