I'm 6'7", and getting in and out of my '71 Bee was a little hard, so I converted a '77 New Yorker Tilt/Tele column to accept a tuff wheel.  The lever to make the wheel telescope was on the bottom before, and had to be moved to the top because of the layout of the tuff wheel.

Whaddya think??

It looks as though the tilt lever won't be an issue, and you gotta love the telescoping column.

Wow, nice work.  From the pics it looks like a regular factory installation.  :2thumbs:

Superbee383,

That's pretty neat.  Now you'll have to hook up the cruise control next!  :2thumbs:

What parts did you have to use to make the swap? Anything custom? :drool5:
That is a cool mod dude!

It was a little screwy getting the wheel to mount to the column 'cause the factory telescoping wheel has the mechanism attached to the wheel, not the column.  I had to amputate the hub of the steering wheel and bolt the tuff wheel to it.  It was either that, or cut and weld.  I wish I had taken pictures along the way, but it was kind of a long drawn out project over a couple of months last winter.  The hardest part was getting the old style cruise stalk to line up.  The stalk is different on a tele column than just a tilt column, and I had to make a little right angle bracket and thread it to get the stalk to screw into it.

Oh, and my car did have cruise in it before, so it was easier than trying to find that old 70-71 style stalk.

Great looking job!
I've got the same type of column from a '72 Imperial that I parted out a decade ago. I kept it with that same idea in mind, making it fit my '70 Charger. Good to know it's doable.

The Aquamax...yes, this bike spent 2 nights underwater one weekend. (Not my doing), but it gained the name, and has since become pseudo-famous. :)

Yeah, it's FJ6 green Go.  I've had it about 6 years and hardly ever get to drive it.  Seems every time there's a car show scheduled it either rains or it's 100 degrees, then winter comes and I don't see it for 6 months.  Oh, well!
