We wrestled the big hemi into the Charger yesterday and it just fit.  Here are some pix of it going in.  Now does anybody want to stop by today and help me wrestle the 4-speed in?

Boy, this is posted to late, but I would have dropped it with the 4-speed.  But, then again, I never dropped in a Hemi before.

One PIC with the blanket of the fire wall looked like you where installing the Hemi in to a couch. ;D

Boy life is a bitch, sure hope you don't have header's. If so, get out the 2 pound hammer and some band aid's. :boxing_smiley:

Looks like fun! I'd love to help with the 4-speed but you'll be finished by the time I could get there.

Troy
Sarcasm detector, that's a real good invention.

Telvis

I wish my wife would help me do stuff like that. You have a sweet setup there. I like the green car too.

Wakko

So cool.  The contrast with the orange and the green is very cool.  And it's definitely cool your family is hands on with you.  What's a Hemi motor weigh?

Sweet :2thumbs: ! I can't wait to see your Charger finished, I've always had a thing for green Chargers.

Is that F8 green?  Looks a shade or two darker than mine.  Your '69 is awesome.

About the 4 speed... if you're putting in a blowproof lakewood bellhousing by any chance, please seek professional help.  :icon_smile_dead:  I put one in my '68, and it was one of the worst jobs I've ever done on a car.  Starter/clutch linkage access is a pain, too.

But, if you've got the plain' old cast iron bellhousing, it shouldn't be too bad.

what a long hard road its been.i put my engine, trans, suspension in from the bottom like the factory did,all mounted on the k member.that way you can do all the hard stuff like starter/header,clutch etc while it is easy to reach.in twenty minutes it was all bolted in,and no risk of scratching the paint.your car looks awesome.i can hardly wait to get started on my 69 hemi charger.

69hemi

bullit68 We were going to do that but ceiling height did not permit it but it would have been easier.

Blusmbl It is an F8 car maybe it the lighting that made it look darker and I used a stock bell housing.

Wakko
The book says around 900 lbs but I don't know if that is with the manifolds, clutch etc. or not.  I can tell you it is one heavy bitch though.

Telvis I can't tell you how lucky that my whole family always jumps in and helps me.

Troy
Actually it took longer to get the 4-speed in than the trans.  While moving the tranny around to get it to seat I moved the clutch disc and had to take it back out and re-align the clutch.  A friend did stop by and we finally got it in after about 6 hours of really nasty work.

cudaken We didn't have enough vertical room to do that since I would have needed the car up about two feet from the ground the hoist would have hit the rafters.  You don't like my plaid blankey?  I have had that one since college.

Well since it is in I guess it is time to start hooking it up and see if it runs.  Wish me luck!

Like your blanket just fine, just threw me off at first.

Never tried to install a engine from under the car before. Kinda of like the idea and may try next time I do a engine. Last two with header's where a Chevy in the butt. Both where Charger's, 383 and 440 on the other.

Cool.  Which green does F8 equate to in 1968?  661 or GG1?

Oh yeah, my favorite link on your site:

Got Hemi? Tragically, no, I have 318, but I live with it. The chickies still look at my car when it goes by (of course, they turn away when they see who's driving, but that's another story).

I wish I had put down blankets on the firewall when I stuffed my motor back in. I scratched the bejesus out of my windshield wiper motor I spent countless hours restoring :rotz:

F8 Green cars are suuuuuweeeeeeeet! I've got a thing for 'em too.

The doors of the car were about the only panels that did not need much work so it just seemed like the picture to post.  The blankets helped but the firewall caught the bolt holding the chain so a little touch up is in order.  The green looks great in the sun but fluorescent lighting dulls it quite a bit.  Outside it has much more of a jade look.

f8 in 1968 is 66-1.

GG-1 is the dark racing green and wasn't used after 68.

Thanks for the info- dark racing green is the REALLY dark green, that looks almost black in dim light, right?

My '68 is 66-1, but it's faded a bit so it looks absolutely hideous!

Yes the GG-1 almost looks black.

(on the 66-1) If you use the base/clearcoat instead of enamel the paint looks 25% brighter/lighter. It has a nice gold metallic back ground metalflake, that really show up in the sunlight.

Awsome Ride Bro! Can't wait to see it up and running. I love green chargers. My 1st car was a 69 SE 383 Auto, F8 Green. Loved that car :bawling:

It's always a much nicer experience when your family helps and supports you in your projects. You are a lucky guy!

Looks great, Man!

I bet that front end sits a little lower nowdays. ;)

The Aquamax...yes, this bike spent 2 nights underwater one weekend. (Not my doing), but it gained the name, and has since become pseudo-famous. :)
