Went to Englishtown Raceway Park in NJ  tonight for their "free" cruise night.  Its a cool car show thats held on the second Tuesday of every month during the season.
The free part is the fact that they give you a free pass down the track   ;D

A co-worker was pestering me again this year about how badly he's gonna beat me "this" year......last year I took him by almost a full second   He ran a 15.2 @ 93 and I ran a 14.3 @ 98
Both of us spun real bad off the line.
He has a '69 Z/28 with a 396 BB and a 4-speed
That was my first time in 9 years of ownership that i ran the car down the track....boy was I nervous.
I still beat him & made him eat crow.

This year was more of the same.  Although I pulled a real rookie racing mistake....... :-\ :-\

I pulled up and went past the staging lights by accident.  I then proceded to back up INTO the lights instead of behind them......My friend was already staged.....lights count down, I hit the gas and.........nuttin!.............

I was in friggin neutral!!! :rotz:     Slammed it into drive (neutral drop.....NOT good) and took off...
He beat me to the line by ¼ car length but I still had a faster time!

I ran a personal best of 13.9 @ 100 to his 14.6 @ 96
My RT was 1.299!
What do you think I would have ran if I actually was ready to race? ;-)

I had no video of the whoopin' this year though & no pics.   i do have a time slip to prove it though ;)

Wait till work tomorrow

At least you weren't still in reverse when you floored it.  ;D

Sounds like you have it running good for a "stocker" on redlines.  :yesnod:

Nobody else has ever done that before  :icon_smile_big:  sounds like you might have pulled some higher
RPM's this year to run him down, and you almost did it, yet thats a good time for that sweet stock looking
ride  :yesnod: :yesnod:

Nice work beating the chebby !  :icon_smile_big: Now about that unorthadox staging technique  :nana: all i'll say on that is it needs a little work

Chris, can you post the incremental times ; 60ft, 1/8th mile etc...and the mph for the 1/8th.

100mph is descent speed so it's making good power.  :icon_smile_cool:

Sounds like you had a lot of fun and had a great day !

nerves do funny things. last time i was at Englishmen, i shifted into neutral instead of third. the rpm's screamed and then hit the rev limiter. opps  :D
you made  a nice recovery and ran a good time. maybe the neutral drop helped your time ?. Rene
I won't be wronged, I wont be Insulted and I wont be laid a hand on. I don't do these things to others, and I require the same from them.

You probably would Not have run any faster if you were ready.

Reaction time measures the time it takes to clear the stage beams from when the bottom green light comes on.
It has no effect on your quarter mile time. Your qtr mile time does not begin until you clear those beams.

Being that you were already revved up, maybe higher than usual, when you hit the shifter down into foward gear, you probably went quicker than a regular run.

Anyhow, Nice times 13.9 !

Not too shabby for a goofed-up start. Like you said, "What do you think I would have ran if I actually was ready to race?" Sounds like you could have shaved off a good half second or so.

Don't feel bad Chris, when I was still racing my Charger 20+yrs ago, I was running 12.50's on stock tires. A good
friend of mine and my room mate at the time had a 70 SS Chevelle. He was running about the same times I was
but he had big meets and a 4sp.

Well one day at the track he wanted to run side by side much like your story, well he deep staged and decided
to back up a bit to light both lights, so the tree comes down I launch pretty well but with lots of tire spin with
stock tires. I look back in the mirror and my friend is still on the line, '' YEP HE LEFT IT IN REVERSE '' ;D
He scattered that M22 'again' he had side stepped the clutch at 4500 rpms and in reverse BOOM, I did feel
sorry for him, so it could be a lot worse  ;D

sounds like you had a great time  Chris ,  doesn't matter about  you goofing the start , you still ran quicker  & more mph than the four speed   396 chebbie.  :icon_smile_approve: you might have run , may be as much as 1/2 a second quicker if you had a good launch .

Is your Chebby buddy admitting that you have the quicker car or is he going around telling everybody that it only matters who was first to the tape?

Just 6T9 CHGR

Nah, he's pretty grown up about it.........he knows he was beat.....twice ;)

GOOD FOR YOU !   and a beautiful Charger, you have every reason to be very proud.

Cool.  A buddy of mine has a big argument going with his brother because his brother raced him one time and got to the end first in spite of the fact that my buddies car has always run a half second quicker.  He didn't have a good excuse like you though, the one time he ran his brother he was just plain sleeping at the lights.  I guess all considered, brothers are supposed to bust each others chops.
